I would have agreed wholeheartedly with that about 5 minutes ago but snow getting a bit heavier here now hopefully an indication of things to come but I'm inclined to think the Glasgow area will miss the worst of it.

Yeah, I'm just down the road at the top end of Cambuslang and it's just a slushy dusting for now. Fingers crossed for an improvement later! Great to see how well others are doing but also frustrating to be so close to the proper action and yet just missing out!

I think that sentence refers to the warning in place for parts of England and Wales, not Scotland

I walked the dog about half 5 when there was just a little bit of snow on the grass and cars but by the time I left for work at half 6 there was a blizzard and a few cms of snow already - it's the fastest I've seen it fall in years in the Glasgow area! The roads were treacherous too and no sign any gritters had been out despite the snow and ice warnings

Given the downgrade overnight in the forecasts I didn't expect anything! Been snowing here since around half 6.

I'd be absolutely salivating at the prospect of that!

Almost nothing in the south side of Glasgow - just the tiniest flakes of snow I've ever seen! However, as little as there is here, it always seems to be worse for the Ayrshire contingent! The west almost always does poorly regardless of the setup. We're too far west to benefit from an easterly as shown in Dec 2010, only seem to get deep cold in a northerly without the snow, and last year when we had a straight westerly the showers missed us entirely but hit the likes of Livingston in the east! Time to move house me thinks! Enjoy the snow everyone who has it!

I've been on this forum for years - ever since the "Slow Watch" days for those who remember that - but very, very rarely post as I don't have a clue when it comes to reading charts and just like to see what the snow chances are! Since the Scottish thread was created, I've basically just ignored the model thread as this thread is so friendly with extremely informative posters, such as Lornezo, LSS and CMD. I must say however that at times there is an anti-English sentiment running through some of the posts and I completely agree with BMW and Lorenzo. I'm not saying that people mean for it to come across that way but it unfortunately does and there is absolutely no need for it. If the model output thread is a bit English-centric then it doesn't matter a jot as we have this great thread for discussing weather in Scotland and that's all that really matters so please just concentrate on that. Apologies for being so off-topic but this crops up now and again and sometimes spoils an otherwise brilliant forum.

I think you might be right. We have a covering here and the snow had started lying on the roads and pavements at one point but it is just too light now. Needs to get heavier to have any chance of accumulations. Nice to see a bit of snow at least!

Hope you're right Catch but the latest forecast on the BBC website says one or two flurries in Glasgow with what appears to be heavier snow to the North, West and South of the city - you couldn't make it up! Of course, that forecast may already be out of date - time will tell!

Hi LSS, sorry to bother you with a "will it snow" question but do you therefore think that the front will pass over Glasgow? I realise things can change very quickly but from what I can tell the forecasts (MO and BBC) seem to be suggesting it won't get further North than SW Scotland... It has been another poor year snow wise here and we had a similar situation earlier in the year where a front didn't make it this far North while the East had lots of showers. Even when we had a direct westerly, parts of the East got more snow than we did! Rather frustrating but would be great to finally get a decent fall of snow before Spring properly arrives. Thanks in advance!

Given how this winter has gone for this neck of the woods that is precisely my fear as well! At the very least it looks like the snow starved South West Scotland are currently in the firing line.

Snowy, on phone so can't see locations but Glasgow had freezing rain in - I think - Dec 2008. Was awful, people slithering about and breaking bones! Much worse than snow as someone commented earlier.

He's probably busy swimming about in his 2 foot snow drifts OK, perhaps that's slightly optimistic!

Well, as GraemeB has pointed out, not much happening in Glasgow. Snow falling but fairly light and just looks a little worse as it's blowing about in the wind. That goes for the South and West side away from the city centre. Bit of a disappointment so far but plenty of time to go I guess... Sounding better elsewhere, particularly the East. As always!

It was definitely after Christmas Day so may have been 26th-27th then? I'm positive it was either then or 27th-28th.

I'm fairly certain it was overnight from 27th-28th December. Ahhhhh, now that was something! What I would give for something similar this week. Edit: PS. Was it not a polar low?..I could easily be mistaken.

Michelle McManus is still on the TV?...Just how desperate are STV?! If you go for it then best of luck! Would be great if you could put up some pics. I thought about it but considering all the snow some places have I could too easily imagine myself getting stranded with my rubbish little car. From a personal view, this cold spell is starting to bore me. Getting sick of scraping the car and being careful of ice. If there were more snow it'd be a different story but here in the West it has been mostly very dry. If I was told there would be no more snow during this cold spell I'd take gale force winds and rain in a second - would be more interesting at least!
