  1. oh that looks interesting - im up in eskdalemuir on friday...ah well, at least the roads look nice n quiet.. not bad at building igloos so if needs be...!
  2. hope something's arrived by then (im south manc)...nowt at the mo, not even frost...new weather station packed up so can't even offer anything by way of useful data.
  3. http://www.maplin.co.uk/search?criteria=weather+station which one d'you think i should ask for? bright spark mate bought me the same box set of laurel and hardy two years running..hadn't even watched the first one so he's changing it for a weather station for me (yippee!) so...advice?
  4. Not at all, anonymous21, it's not even january yet! had a winter like this in somerset in 1998/99...warm days in glasto, no idea what the weather was up to up here then but we've plenty of time to get a few good cold snaps in... Hope you all had a crackin christmas and recovered from the sprouts...wonder what odds all that extra methane's made to the ozone layer...
  5. oodles of honey bees out and about, sunning themselves on the back door, (its called a cleansing flight - they dont go to the loo in the hive) and crocuses out, but apple blossom too...
  6. catcam...for those who didnt get a fix...(including me... ...had 3 calls from folks this morning - 'oh its snowing in hulme, really BIG flakes' (07.30am) 'hey its snowing in stevenage - and its settling'(10.30am) and of course scotland's finest wind up merchant ringing me up to get me to watch the weather forecast... http://www.maccinfo.com/cat/ There looks to be milder stuff trawling over us midweek so I cant see much but wet windy and not particularly 'snowy' conditions now for a couple of weeks at least...oh well, at least the heating bill won't skyrocket again...every cloud and all that..
  7. just icy rain here, off to pick up a new little weather station now...maplins are doing a fairly ok one for beginners like me...£40 down from £55...bit more detailed than the one i had so maybe the cat did me a favour... snow from yesterday still on the camper windscreen, raintoday showing a fair pile of ppn but its highly unlikely it'll be owt more than wet stuff.. i reckon catcam's showing where to go for those reckless enough... http://www.maccinfo.com/cat/
  8. raintoday's radar shows a bit more of 'something' but since i've NO idea now what's happening up there (THANKS CAT...smart price cat food for you now) i've no idea whether to be excited or get ready to start crying lol... http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
  9. bits and pieces here now but NW didn't forecast this either!! my weather station's broken - ggrr! bl@@@dy cat knocked it down trying to get in the window..off to maplins to treat myself to a new one.
  10. morning  very very very chuffed indeed to get up to a blanket of snow at 7am...up into town it's a fairly clear picture but i have to get to ashton later...more of this sort of thing please!!!
  11. yep, daily mail's cheaper than Viz, funnier but less factually accurate. ok for animal bedding though. unless there's another polar low (not so likely but who knows??) it's likely to be a fairly hum drum affair...sadly.
  12. i know lots of us would have loved to see more snow - but this is more typical weather we're seeing now...personally I'm just delighted we had the amazing weather we had, and if it becomes a regular feature well - BONUS! - but it is a part of a pattern, which makes it all the lovelier when it arrives for us snow lovers. One more blast would be wonderful - and if we didn't have these little daydreams we'd be pretty impoverished of spirit I reckon, but these cold, clear winter days give us daybreaks and sunsets of such beauty, views from such places as Teg's Nose are stunning, and that'll do for me. Here's to a spring of rising temps, longer days, rainbows and unexpected showers, into a summer of warmth, long days, short nights, (and beer gardens) and into a dazzling autumn. For me, it's less about predicting the weather as being part of it. Right, that 'fuelled-by-hippie-juice' moment has eased now. Thank you all for your input. Haven't had much to say, but it's been lovely reading your input and forecasts. This has to be one of the nicer places I come to on the web.
  13. lovely pile here in m21 this morning, rapid thaw though, so little left by the time the rain began at lunchtime. I looked at the NW forecast which suggests little more than sleet for this week, any ideas on that?
  14. aye up, I was in wythenshawe earlier with my eldest, when the heavens flew open and out poured a blizzard. Hurrah, just as the bus arrived. There's still a weeny bit left in my garden now, up here in M21, and it's pretty cold so here's hoping for next week... um, one other thing - are we to expect owt from over the pond? their storms seem to bring something our way - does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
  15. well, we had a lovely white-out for a bit - pic to follow - and the kids are out playing as i write but it is now light drizzle and visibly thinning, so I'd best be quick with me camera
  16. lovely fluffy covering this morning when I got up but mostly gone now...about an inch or so. Not much more than frost in hulme, so consider myself very lucky. beautiful on the water park.
  17. hey ho we had a bit of graupel here today, about 2 ish or so, did settle for a bit. fingers crossed for more though. it aint spring yet!
  18. yup. I echo the same thoughts as many of you here - and I've been delighted to find that there are many people out there that get just as excited as me when the odds of some snow increase...reassuring to know there are more nutters out there mwah hah ha ... look forward to getting back here more, thanks for sharing. X
  19. drizzly air really here - a few tiny wet specks on the window, and a definite thaw going on in my gardens now... Can't really see the next one being anything more than cold and wet, not down here anyway. Hopeful but not expecting more snow now. Not til feb anyway. It was absolutely stunning while it lasted and the memories of this will stay for a very long time with us. Breathtaking stuff. Fabulous to read all your posts here too; learning loads along the way, I've spoken to a fair few folk here in M21 who have lived here for decades and dont recall it ever being like this...even the lady, now in her eighties, who was born in her house. Amazing.
  20. just been outside and the temp has dropped pretty sharply - wish my little station hadnt broken...first day in 'normal' clothes and I can feel the chill now so I'm hopeful that this means the forecast was correct. think I'm off to maplins tomorrow for a new set up...neighbour's stuff great but need my own if I'm to be able to play ball properly. Fingers crossed for wishes granted...
