  1. Removed the shovel from the van yesterday thinking i wont need that anymore this winter........so somethings bound to happen now.
  2. Snow on Porstsdown hill, not laying though, sleet in Fareham.
  3. Stubbington, 2.6 and dropping, was rain now snow, big flakes with it.
  4. Temp 4.1 in stubbington, was 4.3 earlier,so is decreasing......too near the sea so only think rain for us here.
  5. Just dont get too down hearted if it does not come off. The potential is there i think, and from what i make of this model reading malarkey, there is still a large cold pool the low will come up against, which wins, who knows !
  6. If i recall correctly a very similar set up, which caught a few out. I am fairly confident, this may be an interesing event, but i am no expert and tomorrow will tell. For those interested, and i hope the link works, this details a railway perspective of most of the bad snow years, with lots of pics. Scroll... to 1981 and you will see http://www.derbysulzers.com/200179.html
  7. Thanks TWS, i will look at those charts.....hmmm just got to get my head around them then
  8. Thanks TWS, for the reply, ....of course makes sense now, so i assume it all depends on the cold heights and the likely hood of the warmer air being able to get over the top, otherwise the stall scenario comes into play ?. If so what are the current heights of the west approaching low, and the flow from the east.....or more to the point which chart do i need to look at to try and work it out for myself. Thanks for the help
  9. My thoughts exactly drgl, looking at the image both east and west efforts look similar, and i think this is going to catch a few out. Correct me if i am wrong but was 1981 a similar scenarion with an east west battle, and was this not the year that devon and cornwall got clobbered big style. Looking at what is modelled to happen is that the low from the west wraps around the eastlerly towards the south but i have a feeling that this could develop into a stall. I am, no expert !.....and leave it to those more experienced to comment otherwise, however i watch with interest as to the final outcome. It would not surprise me to see the metoffice upgrade the alerts fairly soon.
  10. Probably not the right forum for this, and apologies if its not. I have ony just started taking a keen interest, so tend to take a back seat and prefer to read. However a question if i may....i notice from the meteox satimage site that we currently have a low progressing west to east, and also an eastlerly air flow. Now the sat image clearly shows the air space in the middle being compressed, and i understand that its the classic east west battle scenario, and that either could win, lose, or stall. My question is what generally happens to the air/clouds as both fronts approach, and what is the most likely outcome. Again, sorry if its not the right area to ask but as before i tend to read with a keen interest.
  11. does that mean we get another dumping on the iow>??????will it move back over us??? we still have a warning til 11am tomoz! a lot of precipitation around us!!!??? Dont get your hopes up Lee, as i say i am no expert, but the wrap around of this low, in my view will come back and hit us again befor heading south east...time will tell
  12. Without wishing to steal kolds thunder, excuse the pun,but on viewing the satellite images this low is moving in an anti clock wise direction and appears to be pivoting between southampton and chichester, now i am definately no weather expert, but i have the view that what we are getting now, we get again, probably about 0300hrs or so.....more to come i think. Just enjoy it, it doesnt happen here that often !
  13. Hi all you locals, not often i post, in fact prob a first ! About 2 to 3 inch in stubbington at the moment and getting heavier. Some nice blue flashes up the road towards Titchfield, so looks like some power lines down. Some guy walking down the road said they were snaking about on the ground. Looks like its here for the night, as looking at meteox the radar shows the low circling above us in the fareham area. Now being a weather newby, i think we might get this all again later looking at the way the satellite pics are moving. Anyway, enjoy what you have, as i have not seen this good since the 70s For info...outside temp 0.8 deg with 998mb pressure.
  14. Stuart Can i suggest that whichever model you decide on, that you purchase the camera the other side of the pond. With the exchange rates that they are the camera would effectively be half price. However, there may be customs issues, but who is to say you didnt take it over with you. My camera went defective on me whilst on holiday in florida, so we just nipped in to walmart as you do, to be able to continue our holiday....if you get my drift
  15. Is any grass there, yellow, brown or withered or has it just disappeared....any marks where a turf cutter has been? grass just does not disappear ! Just read on another site about bermuda grass not being shade tolerant, and i do know that you have to get a certain type of grass for shaded areas as some will survive where others do not. How long have you had it and is it in the shade, even if it is shaded by fence panels, some grasses do not like it.
