  1. That's a fantastic link - a brilliant description of using the WS2300 and full of useful hints - excellent work. Bernard
  2. Just in case anyone reading this thread is interested I think I have sussed out the format of some of the files for the HeavyWeather PC application. If anyone is interested I can send them a short document - send me an email.
  3. How about these two weather ones - they are both of a potential storm over Southam, Warwickshire which never materialised.
  4. On my system (1.86 GHz Pentium) Heavyweather seems to take typically 25 - 33% processor, which is probably not a million miles away from your experience - I agree this is a rediculous figure for such an application and far too high to keep the application up all the time - it must be constantly polling the comms port for data or something similar - there must be a better way for them to handle this. It looks like very poor application design, which fits in with my earlier comments.
  5. What was the result of this - I'm assuming by flatlining you mean you get dashes instead of any data - I had this problem on a device that is less than a year old. It started with one or two readings and has now got to the stage where everything has gone. My device is wireless and I just replaced the batteries in the sensor end and it seems to be OK now (after doing the wireless reset and waiting about 10 - 15 minutes). The batteries (Duracell) gave a reading of 1.48 volts which did not seem too bad to me, whereas the new ones gave 1.61 volts and the device is about 60 feet away through a standard cavity wall.
  6. I have been opening a new history file for each month - I assume you mean the .dat file. It is this file which seems to carry over the total rainfall figure from the previous month. If you are trying to do the same as me - create a file for each month - and you do not have my problem could you tell me the sequence of events you go through please and then I can try it and see if it makes a difference? If I remember correctly I have been zeroing out the counters on the WS2300, by using the Heavyweather application interface, and not by pressing buttons on the console. I then change the History File by pressing the box at the bottom left of the screen and it then enters the first line of the new data (straight away) - this has the old total rainfall figure in it and just keeps on getting incremented even though the WS2300 shows the accurate total rainfall figure on the LCD display. I'm sure there is some subtle little point I'm missing here, but its eluding me
  7. I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't impressed with it, and I tend to agree with your comments on Weatherdisplay32 as well - I took a look at it and was underwhelmed.
  8. I've got a WS2300 and there is one feature which is driving me mad. Each month I like to start a new set of data and reset all the counters to zero. So I clear all the values on the Heavy Weather main screen - the first one that comes up when you launch it), including the total rainfall and everything seems OK. Even the value for total rainfall on the LCD display says zero. However when I go to the History screen and look at the latest readings (which are set to appear every hour) I see that it just adds new rainfall to the total from last month. I've looked through the manual, I've read any number of items on the web but as far as I can see no one else seems to have this problem. Does anyone know how to change this behaviour please. Also I would be interested to know if anyone can explain any more about how the Heavy Weather software works - its seems a bit crude and basic and I cannot find anywhere an explanation of what the files called Setup, curr.day and xxx.txt actually do. they each seem to get updated (at least according to the Windows timestamp on them) at similar times. Setup and currlst.dat get updated when you enter the Heavy Weather program and currdat.lst gets updated a little later followed by xxx.txt when I say 'Yes' to the question about overwriting the file. Any insight to either of these questions anyone?
