  5. Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train. Thursday 1st May 2008: Sun 'n' Cloud. Melton Mowbray at 06:30hrs 7.9'C; overnight recorded low 5.9'C A tale of two halves for today's commute to York from Melton Mowbray. This morning broke clear, sunny and cool. It was a sunny drive to Grantham along the A607 and on board the train heading north the sun remained. Everything changed between Newark and Retford as North Nottinghamshire had more cloud cover. This led to a complete band of cloud by the time the train got north of Doncaster with the gloom blocking out the sping sunshine. York this morning is cool and overcast. Tomorrow: Mist first thing, then sunshine & showers.
  6. Wednesday 30th April 2008: Sunshine after the Rain. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 7.4'C Very heavy rain in Melton Mowbray last night but this morning all was dry. There was plenty of high cloud cover which blocked out the sun during the commute to Grantham by car. Once on board the train the sun burned through the cloud and once north of Doncaster it has been clear and sunny all the way. Tomorrow: A repeat performance; rain overnight drying out by dawn…
  7. Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train. Tuesday 29th April 2008: The Vale of Fog Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 4.2'C Melton Mowbray this morning was clear, dry and sunny; if a little on the cool side. The glorious conditions continued throughout the commute to Grantham by car and towards York on the train. A complete change in the weather occurred about 15 miles south of York, where low lying mist in the fields through the Hambleton area suddenly thickened up into quite a foggy patch. The fog remained until the Copmanthorpe area on the outskirts of York where it cleared to leave a bright sunny morning. Tomorrow: Cloudy with rain…
  8. Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train. Monday 28th April 2008: Cloudy and Cool; up North. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 7.9'C What an interesting weather weekend in Melton Mowbray it has been. Sunday was a very summery day. I was outside in the garden for most of the afternoon and whilst enjoying a beer on Sunday evening I would admit to it feeling really pleasant in the warm evening sunshine. That ended dramatically with a storm at about 1830. The sky turned black from the southwest and a few rumbles of thunder soon became a dramatic display lightening right across the town. It was mainly sheet lightening with some visible fork lightening. The rain was heavy and intense and the whole cell hung around for about 30 minutes or so before moving off in a North Easterly direction. This morning broke sunny and warm in Melton Mowbray and similar conditions continued through the commute to work. North of Doncaster the cloud began to build from the west and disappointingly York is under a blanket of cloud with some light drizzle and pretty cool. Tomorrow: Sunshine and showers…

  12. Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train. Tuesday 22nd April 2008: Spring Fog on the Wolds. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 5.6'C It's getting warmer I am sure! This morning Melton Mowbray was sunny and I had to consider wearing a different jacket. During the drive to Grantham fog set in along the A607 with a thicker patch between Waltham-on-the-Wolds and Harlaxton. By Grantham it was clear and the sun broke through again. On board the train and heading north the sun became obscured once more by cloud cover through North Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire. On arrival into York the sun is out and it feels very spring like. Temperature at 06:30 was 5.3'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 3.9'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 1002 hPa Tomorrow: Rain to arrive by dawn.

Monday 21st April 2008: A little brighter Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 5.5'C After the gloom of the weekend today broke a little brighter in Melton Mowbray with the disc of the rising sun just visible behind the light cloud cover. Temperature at 06:30 was 5.5'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 4.5'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 994 hPa Tomorrow: Becoming warmer!
  14. Friday 18th April 2008: Like a winter's day. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 5.6'C This morning in Melton Mowbray the Easterly wind was blowing and the sky was a miserable dark grey gloom; pretty much a winter's day. Throughout the commute to York the grey theme continued only to be broken up by a brighter and even sunny interlude through the Rossington area, just south of Doncaster. If anything the cloud has become thicker and darker the further towards York I've gone.emperature at 06:30 was 5.6'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 2.9'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 994 hPa The Weekend: The grey theme is set to continue.
  15. Thursday 17th April 2008: North Notts Cloud Cover. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 3.2'C Clear blue skies and a rising sun in Melton Mowbray this morning and throughout the drive to Grantham and on board the train heading north. All that changed on the approach to Retford in North Nottinghamshire. From the train window a massive wall of dark cloud welcomed the train into the North and from there to York it has been overcast and gloomy. York is cloudy and cool with no precipitation. Temperature at 06:30 was 3.2'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 2.1'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 1005 hPa Tomorrow: Grey with Drizzle and that Easterly wind.
  16. Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train. Tuesday 15th April 2008: Still a spring chill in the air. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 2.6'C Another clear and frosty start to the day in Melton Mowbray this morning with a much less cloud and wall to wall sunshine. 17. Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train. Monday 14th April 2008: Lightening over the Walker's Stadium. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 4.5'C In tems of the commute to York this morning there is very little weather to talk about. A local air frost meant the ice had to be scrapped off the car first thing and the drive to Grantham was under high patchy cloud. On board the train heading towards York cloud began to build around the Doncaster area with light drizzle and sunny spells here in York. The most interesting weather happened on Friday afternoon and over the weekend. On Friday travelling home on the train, the passengers were witness to an impressive complete rainbow in the sky to the East of the train in the Bawtry area. Many passengers in my coach got out their cameras and mobile phones to capture this impressive display. I got a picture of the tail end of the rainbow and hope to post it here shortly. The weekend weather was a mixture of sunshine and heavy showers. On Saturday at the Leicester City home match an impressive thunder storm with lightening lived up the mood during the last few minutes of the first half. It's a shame the action up in the sky couldn't be replicated on the pitch. May be the turmoil above the Walker's Stadium is a bad omen for the Foxes fortunes as their Championship relegation battle continues. Temperature at 06:30 was 4.5'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 2.1'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 1006 hPa Tomorrow: Another late winter ligth frost with sunny spells.

Friday 11th April 2008: Watch out for the heavy rain! Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 4.5'C Sorry for the lack of posts this week; I have been out and about… It felt like a summer's afternoon yesterday when I got in, but heavy rain soon moved in after dark. This morning broke clear and cool in Melton Mowbray with some sunny intervals, although it did feel rather cool. Similar conditions throughout the commute north to York today with the city being nice and sunny. Not sure how long it will last though widespread heavy showers with thunder is on the cards. Hope we get a storm…. Temperature at 06:30 was 4.5'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 3.5'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 986 hPa The Weekend: Traditional April showers…

Tuesday 8th April 2008: Brrr Brrrr Brrrr Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 0.7'C The day broke with a frost in Melton Mowbray today; although it wasn't hard to clear the ice from the car. Patchy high cloud blocked out the sunlight between Melton and Grantham along the A607 with a few misty patches on top of the Wolds. On board the train and heading north it became increasingly cloudy with some precipitation of rain midway between Doncaster and York. In the City of York this morning it is bright but cloudy and cool. Temperature at 06:30 was 0.7'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 0.3'C. 20. Welcome to my Blog, bringing you my weather observations through North East Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and into the City of York during my daily commute from Melton Mowbray, by car and train. Monday 7th April 2008: It's white over on them tops! Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 2.0'C It has been a weekend of snow showers for Melton Mowbray. Yesterday there was a slight covering of the white stuff first thing, with plenty of wintry showers through the afternoon. There was a longer period of snow around 7pm; but it didn't settle. One strange thing I noticed on Sunday was being outside in falling snow with the sun just coming out from behind the cloud and it having some enough strength in it to make it feel quiet pleasant. Today the day broke clear and sunny and cold, but certainly not frosty. Very much similar conditions throughout the commute north to York. There was no snow cover throughout the commute but approaching York I could see the Yorkshire Wolds were thick with snow cover. Temperature at 06:30 was 2.0'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 1.9'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 992 hPa Tomorrow: Cold start with further wintry showers…

Friday 4th April 2008: Misty Hollow… Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 9.0'C It was one of those grey misty starts to the day in Melton Mowbray this morning with the town shrouded under low cloud and mist. During the drive to Grantham along the A607 the usual favoured spots had mist clinging to them. During the train ride north there were some brighter and clearer interludes north of Newark with the rays from the sun breaking through the holes in cloud. Here in the City of York this morning it is grey and overcast and quite cool. Temperature at 06:30 was 9.0'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 7.3'C. Thursday 3rd April 2008: A Cool Grey Day. Melton Mowbray 06:30hrs 8.1'C A grey start to the day in Melton Mowbray this morning and despite the temperatures being up on yesterday it feels cooler without that spring sunshine. The commute to Grantham by road and onto York by train was all under very similar conditions; grey high cloud with only a slight hint of something brighter in the East. Here in York there is a cool breeze and someone has left the office open all night so it's a bit on the cool side right now… Temperature at 06:30 was 8.1'C, lowest recorded overnight temperature 7.5'C. Pressure at 06:30 was 1029 hPa Tomorrow: More of the same again…
