  1. Potentially not long till the next event then. Where's the magma going to go this time I wonder?
  2. As above for us, missed the eruption entirely but had the jetstream making out flight time out longer and flight back shorter than normal. Beautiful wintry experiences around the South Coast from -19 C to proper snow storms, just what the doctor ordered! Does anyone have the link for the GPS uplift site for the area, I cannae find it?
  3. This was awesome to watch on Monday night, from watching the tremors build on RAS to seeing the light on the webcam. I had a pre-planned trip arriving tomorrow morning, even more excited now!! Will report if we see much/get close. Will enjoy the cold and snow if not.
  4. Missed it by 2 days Previous lava fields very cool to see though. Lttli Hrutur is in the background on third pic.
  5. 16cm on hard surface measured, but probably got to 18-20cm before turning to rain in Dunblane.
  6. Last shower was quite wintery. 20221217_151910.mp4 "Are you taking more videos for your little....." Daughter quote.
  7. Quick glance says 2 days of warmer then cool to cold again afterwards. Model thread will generally say warm but that's the famed Southern bias. ECM looking cold for us and a very interesting Christmas day!
  8. Pretty hard frost here last night and lasting well out of the sun. Could be around for a while if these are anything to go by! Be even nicer if it got covered with snow though. t2mStirlingshire.webp Sorry picture no worky. Try this.
  9. All variations on a theme overnight and this morning, pros and cons but all appear to keeping us cold. Most runs seem to leading towards "That GEM" from yesterday with all of the polar vortex over Asia slowly leaking cold to our vicinity.
  10. Can I post a +384hr GFS chart JFF? Cause there's nothing much to see before this.
  11. My avatar is from 28th November 2010! It was cold. Been fascinating watching this very unusual set up develop through the models over the last week or so. The main difference from 2010 for me is that we have too much blocking this time around and this has tempered my expectations a bit so far. We really need some "energy" to drop out of the vortex towards us to get the extreme weather (snow) so many are looking for. Since there appears to be very little energy in the Canadian part of the vortex (can be useful to provide an undercut of the Greenie high) we would like the Siberian side to drop down through Scandi. That is what we are starting to see more of in the modeling now, which is very positive in my book. The only problem with the vortex moving is it's high risk for us as the cols could miss completely or the block could be moved on. I don't see many problems with a West based -NAO in this case as there is so much cold ushered in by the heights over Greenland.
  12. Absolutely stunning day today, back up my favourite local hill for the sunset and bit of anything she can do I can do better! Some interesting learning on snow stability and avalanches today. We created a quickly propagating crack just above the cornice which then collapsed as I rode through it afterwards - safe location for an avalanche and very interesting to observe! Cornice.mp4
  13. Homeschooling today was learning about cornice formation and collapse. MOV_1020.mp4 And I found my snowhole from Sunday - I knew the rough area and identified it from a 20cm lump sticking out of the powder field. 2 strikes with the shovel and I was through.
  14. That would mean knowing/guessing who has a "hot" missus (mr) or a "cold" missus (mr). I'll take a punt at -21.2C for a purely outside temp (official).
  15. Today's theme is cornices. And my snow hole from the other day has vanished! Tried to get to it but crotch deep powder. Anyone tap me some snow shoes?
  16. Well that was disappointing, ruler refused to show any more than 5cm on even surfaces. Back door drift close to 10cm but not even close to 2018. .
  17. I wonder what the ratio of "being out enjoying the snow" vs "studying the shape and track of the next shower on radar" is. Better take my ruler for a walk.
  18. Just tried to create the ultimate kiltie snow pic but couldn't get the light right. At least we had another shower after lots of near misses.
  19. I'm interested in this little chap on Thursday, just in case I don't get any more in the meantime!
