  1. The best bet is to wake up Christmas day morning and look out of the window. I struggle to comprehend those who say, it is going to be so and so on Christmas Day or January, when the experts cannot forecast with certainly what 'the day after tomorrow' is going to be like!
  2. Going to have to resign as this area have approximately 1cm of snow!
  3. I'm with Snow Queen on this one.... Bleak here, cold and sunny periods. Great place Maidstone, I was christened onboard HMS Maidstone.
  4. Has been known around the London area... I believe someone posted something about it last year or two.
  5. What I have seen and read to date, this 1000 year event is more for Eastern European, in particular Russia... Should it happen. I believe weather patterns are changing, as they have done over over the millions of years this planet has existed. I do feel this is ramping in its purest form. If people where able to predict the weather with such clarity, boards like this would not exist. What we get, is what we get. Personally, I never look beyond 24/36 hours in advance and yes it can be exciting with the POSSIBILITY for snow. Nothing like the weather to cock up peoples plans..... After being unemployed for sometime and only recently secured a job in London (start this week), I am dreading it, if it snows big time down here (more than an inch). They just cannot cope with it all and they never, learn lessons from it all. Getting back on topic, how many times last winter were peoples expectations dashed with a updates 24/48 hours out... Ran out of fingers!
  6. Actually you are quite correct. In Witney about 3cm has fallen and it looks like (looking at the Radar)the main stuff will miss us by 30 miles. Which is an absolute bummer!
  7. Irrespective, for South Central England, I think you will find light snow, if any..... Slight overly cooked again with too many youngsters over reading charts. IMHO anyway.
  8. I know... Bummer eh! Still not convinced Witney/Oxford area are going to get snow Tuesday/Wednesday. Looks a bit marginal to me, reckon icy rain/sleet. Getting fed up with all this cold weather and no snow.
  9. Or more to the point 'ice' (hoar frost) falling off trees. Happened here.
  10. Thames freezing over was helped a great deal by the number and type of bridge(s) that crossed the Thames back then.
  11. Lucky bleeders, forgotten what snow looks like. Had a grand total of 0mm so far this season...
  12. One of the problems living so far inland me thinks.
  13. I cannot see why people are getting so excited about a 'forecast' which is at the minimum 6 days away and we all know it will change to the usual over-cooked and all will be disappointed. Especially when they cannot get it right 12 hours before the event. I must be honest, RAF Brize Norton's Metoffice has got the forecast correct for the last 9 days. Like a lot of people, I have given up seeing snow. Has been forecast here (except Brize's forecast) on more than occasion only for it to do everything expect Snow. I will be pleased to delete this post if it snows on the 05 Jan 10. And why would the Met Office put out a Be Aware warning for - Snow showers are expected to affect many areas but especially coasts and hills exposed to the north. The showers may be heavy and give fresh accumulations of 2-5cm in some places and locally 10cm. Icy patches on untreated surfaces may become widespread. AND NOT EVEN FORECAST SNOW. I will accept the Icy patches on untreated surfaces. Have to laugh otherwise it will grind you down.
