  1. Nowt better after being stuck inside on a warm sunny day than sitting outside with a beer at the end of it. only problem is that my favourite sitting area is in the shade from teatime even in high summer so no tan topping up but it’s nice to sit out anyway.
  2. Just watched the forecast and apparently a storm has popped up over in Europe and, surprise, surprise is heading towards us. folks would sell their grandma for that to happen in the depths of winter but when it comes to spoiling some good weather in high summer, no issues whatsoever. we should still scrape a dry weekend but Sunday is already forecast to feel fresher as the system approaches the UK. before that though and unless it arrives even sooner, a couple of hot days to look forward to/endure dependent on where you sit with heat.
  3. A better start to the day than yesterday up here and almost certainly a dry one coming up. BBC earlier forecast was showing 24c for the region, sorry Liverpool today and 27c on Friday but we all know that it’s not usually representative of the majority of the northwest and inland, and especially more southern areas are probably going to meet the heatwave threshold temperatures today. probably a bit too hot for my liking over the weekend but with talk of a breakdown as soon as early next week and with that breakdown likely to affect this part of England before any other, I’ll make the most of it.
  4. WillinGlossop unlucky as regards the sunshine or am I just being lucky as it’s been sunny here for a few hours now. always was going to be I suppose as after putting it off for a week, I promised the missus I would paint a ceiling when I came home from work. might as well get done though instead of doing it at weekend.
  5. Looking at the lead already taken by Yorkshire and a few days of hot weather with no rain to come I can’t see it being long before the northwest region enters a hosepipe ban. latest figures are eye opening with Pennine reservoirs down to 45% and Hawswater and Thirlmere both in the 60’s and hardly rising after a couple of wet weeks so unless things turn a lot wetter later next week then I can’t see it being long before restrictions are given. problem is that a hosepipe ban is normally the cue for the start of a deluge. anyway I better get the car washed while I can.
  6. Well today was a slow burner certainly up here with rain and drizzle on and off until lunchtime and little in the way of sun until mid afternoon. It’s got its act together now though with sunshine and a decent 23c so not bad in the end and hopefully an ever improving picture as we get to the end of the week and over the weekend. I’m not looking for 30c+ as it will end up being that upstairs in the house as well but it will be nice to spend the weekend doing next to nothing apart from sitting outside with a few cold beers and maybe a BBQ or two. I think after the short straw that we drew last weekend and the heatwave measured in hours before that, we deserve a seat at the top table at heatwave party number three.
  7. Damp misty start up here with steady rain at one stage when I looked out. Thankfully it’s forecast to clear through shortly with warm sunshine developing and that should be the start of a decent spell of dry and sunny weather including that most fabled of beasts in our part of the country, a dry sunny and hot weekend.
  8. I am really struggling to see how our region is going to get drizzle and temperatures in the mid to high teens from this weekends set up but equally I just don’t believe how we can get so lucky to have wall to wall sunshine and hot for a few days either. maybe our luck is finally about to change and my memories of getting soaked to the skin at Haydock Park last Friday will be just that when I’m sat out with a cold beer or three exactly a week later.
  9. Thought it was to much to expect a full day without rain but it was the latest in the day that it started and I managed to easily get the grass cut before it arrived. Peeeeeing down now though and it’s suddenly got windy enough to blow over a fence panel that’s been leaning in the same place for about 2 months.
  10. jakey725 Maz Aye the Irwell is less than 40 miles long from source to the ship canal and only 20 by road but the difference in weather from one end to the other can be massive, especially in winter. Rain in Manchester and Salford often becomes sleet around Bury, wet snow by Rawtenstall, setting heavy snow at Bacup and a full blown blizzard at the source on Deerplay Moor. In the end the difference isn’t 40 miles in length of the river, it’s a much smaller 400m in altitude and the same altitude that always keeps things 2-3’c lower up here than down in Manchester or Salford.
  11. Dark Horse and here we’ve been in the middle of the middle with plenty of dry sunny weather but equally a fair smattering of poor days by expected summer standards. One thing we thankfully haven’t had is excessively wet days, our fare share of damp drizzly ones but not much in the way of heavy rain. if today was the last day of a summer than only included June then I’d give it a 7 out of 10 but I could understand anyone 50 miles south of here giving it a 9 with anyone 50 miles to my north stopping at a 4 or even less. in a country of amazing variations, our region has plenty of its own.
  12. Rush2019 I got loads of bites sometime over the weekend on my arms and shoulders and they are unusually itchy for me. they don’t look like standard midge bites so maybe horse flies.
  13. A bit depressing looking at the text and graphics on the Met app with the now mandatory rain on Saturday and Sunday before a bit of an improvement again into next week. oh and just to rub it in, it all arrives later on Friday to probably spoil our Friday evening at Haydock Park. maybe it’s time for a reset and move the weekend to the middle of the week and see how long it is before the weather gods notice and Tuesday and Wednesday become the new reservoir top up days.
  14. Iceaxecrampon cheers, sunny and mid 20’s C will do me fine, the south can keep the ridiculous stuff. if it comes off of course
