    Any thoughts why the melt is slowing down considerably these last weeks? I remember last year(s) it just kept accelerating until mid september... Logically you would expect an albedo effect to speed the melt up.

    Record-breaking month of July in the US; but not the kind of records we've been used to: http://www.accuweather.com/news-weather-features.asp?#extremes Some suggest it's because of the inactive sun that the jetstream is behaving strangely. If you browse a bit in the showed links there are also reports of absence of monsoons in India and a colder-then-average winter in the Southern hemisphere. Just a coincidence?
