  1. Thanks. I know they are all ok but hope they’ve not had any damage.
  2. Around the Croydon area it is fairly calm and hardly any wind. The rain is relentless though. Hopefully I’ll hear from my family down near Eastbourne soon. if this had tracked further North, I feel we’d have had an 87. The nearest of misses (aside the coasts!)
  3. Very noisy now, gusts seem more frequent than on Friday. The last one came with a loud crash, so something’s been damaged locally.
  4. Did a longer walk around the area today to see what damage had been done. Thankfully not much. No trees but a number of large branches and a few fences. For someone with a fascination for extreme weather, I sure picked an odd location to live in. Fairly low ground and sheltered. Similar to when there’s marginal snow, just a short stroll up the road, made a noticeable difference. The wind must be in a slightly different direction as the bigger gusts are much noisier than or Friday, despite being less strong. on a side note, I’ve muted my family WhatsApp as I can’t keep explaining why 87 wasn’t a hurricane and why other factors (lack of warning, middle of the night, time of year) made it so unusual. Ha! Noticed Southern Trains are now advising not travelling tomorrow and have a 50mph limit on trains that do run.
  5. When was the last time we had winds like this in the SE? I’m thinking it was around 9 years ago? I know we’ve had a few storms since but I can’t recall the winds being at this strength
  6. Although I didn’t get much accumulation here, we have managed to keep some snow cover for 8 days. That’s pretty impressive by any standards. I think I’d have to go back to Dec 10 to match it. As a whole this winter has been significantly better. Much more seasonal with plenty of frosts and colder days. The only thing I’ve missed here is significant snow fall but how many times in the last 40 years has my area had a foot of snow? I don’t think it’s as many as I try to believe! 87, 91 and 10 are 3 I’m confident on but maybe there were others? Given the trend over recent years to have a cold spell in March, I’d not rule out us seeing more snow before we start focusing on heatwaves and thunderstorms!
  7. I’ve experienced that when I lived in Oxted at the foot of Botley Hill. I left for work and it was clear and sunny. Train went through the tunnel and we exited into Narnia! I had no idea a streamer was effecting London as the hill stopped it from progressing to where I lived
  8. Snow shower here. Left a dusting where it melted today. Let’s all do the snow dance and hopefully a massive streamer will appear and bury us all in a foot of snow...
  9. Morning! Moderate light snow here. Still not what I’d class as heavy (I judge this by visibility) Hard to tell the depths due to it blowing about and being fussy over where it wanted to settle! solid covering though but nowhere near the level of the previous “Beast” Best of all is that we’ve had snow falling for 3 days with sub zero temps. Last year I barely saw a snowflake so this restores my faith in the Snow Gods
  10. Glitter falling here. Snowed a good majority of the day but always light so accumulation was hardly noticeable. One thing I’ve learnt over all the years is the best snow is generally not forecast. In 2010 I was expecting a few cms. I was annoyed when it started as heavy snizzle but out of nowhere it went nuts! Convection kicked in over us and I ended up with about a foot of snow that night (and very little sleep!) Not saying that will happen again but you just never know in these set ups
  11. It’s been snowing lightly for about 3hrs. Not settling but has started to on the trees. Nowhere else. Just trees. Odd but looks nice. I ordered a 2009 Thames Streamer. Hoping it will turn up
  12. Stopped in South Croydon and melting quickly. A cm at best. Was nice whilst it lasted and at least gave the first covering in a couple of years.
  13. It turned to rain very quickly here. We maybe had around 30 mins of moderate snow which settled in few spots. Sadly another bust in south Croydon. 2nd March 2018 remains the last time we had full snow cover
