  1. May 2020 by some distance. May 2018 had some very warm and humid weather, but there were also storms around whereas 2020 was pretty much bone dry with loads of sunshine.
  2. Especially if it's just the stock iphone or android weather app you're using. I get why the layman may use those, but weather nuts like us shouldn't go anywhere near those!
  3. The Met Office forecast from yesterday (see below) looks pretty bang on. Cloudy, chilly, damp morning to be replaced by showers in the afternoon:
  4. Alderc 2.0 it was always a very flimsy high, and with the Euro trough gaining strength and pushing west, it's being blown away.
  5. It's more over the weekend. But even that isn't looking as robust as it once was, and it is also going to be chillier than was forecast a couple of days ago.
  6. Bristawl Si giving you a day off today!
  7. Been a cracking day today, lots of Spring sunshine.
  8. Lovely morning, lots of sunshine. Despite it being chilly it feels warm in the sun.
  9. Cloud seeding wouldn’t have caused this deluge…. What is cloud seeding and did it cause Dubai flooding? WWW.BBC.CO.UK Dubai has been hit by record floods, sparking misleading speculation about cloud seeding.
  10. To be fair, it’s a pretty common synoptic set up at this time of year. It’s happened during many a Spring. Hence why the NW often see their driest weather between April and early June.
  11. Zurich today has been frigid. 5c to 6c with cold rain. Then some brief glimpses of the sun before more heavy showers came in. Flying home to London shortly.
  12. B87 June 2020 is an intriguing one. Almost all of the SE region, including the eastern half of London, saw 200 hours or more, except for a small patch over west London, where Heathrow is located, and slightly north from there. This is where sometimes it’s worth looking at the map rather than stats for an individual station.
  13. Yep, I meant the season overall. It’s true May itself was dull.
  14. Azazel Spring 2022 was warm, dry and sunny overall:
  15. Yep not unusual at all for the west to be warmer than the E/SE at times during Spring, simply because northern blocking is most common at this time of year, so we often see high pressure drifting up towards the NW, favouring sheltered western areas from an easterly breeze, which at this time of year is more likely to drag in low cloud off the North Sea than at other times of year. It’s why the driest time of year for the NW is often April and May.
  16. It’s not uncommon to get these colder spells in Spring with northern blocking becoming more likely at this time of year, hence why Spring can be such an infuriating season. In winter you expect dull, damp and cold. In Spring our expectations rise so when we do get these spells it becomes more depressing. A chilly spell now with winds veering east or north is not unusual. The problem is we’re coming off the back of an exceptionally wet last 18 months and the middle of last Summer was so poor, so we’re all naturally more impatient than we otherwise would be. Nothing to suggest we can’t still have a great Summer, but it would be nice if we could finally get some sustained dry and sunny weather sometime soon.
  17. You guys think it’s cold back home, well it’s 5c with constant drizzle and a biting wind here in Zurich. Feels like a mid winter day.
  18. They did, a warmer version of what we got in the SE over the weekend. But much colder now.
  19. In fact, picking a bunch of Central European destinations and it looks worse than the UK: ….and then London:
  20. Landed in Zurich this afternoon. It’s chilly, breezy, about 11c currently. Tomorrow is showery with a high of 9c. It’s not just us Brits going through a cold snap.
  21. Are they? I don’t know many people who look forward to Autumn as a season, except those who dislike warm weather. Many people enjoy September warmth. Yes, it’s not as nice as having that warmth in peak Summer, but it’s better than not having the warmth at all. You’re right that people expect things to warm up in March and April, which it generally does, but Spring has always been a notoriously fickle season. 2020 was rare in being so warm and sunny right through late March to the end of May. Normally you’ll get bursts of warmth interspersed with cold snaps. In some Spring’s, with northern blocking more likely than at any other time of year, the season can often be cold.
  22. Not sure I agree with the above. March and April often have wild swings between warm and cold, it’s common at this time of year. Solar energy is enough to provide real warmth but SST’s and the Arctic is still cold enough to pack a real punch. It’s why Spring can be so frustrating as a season, because things can flip so suddenly. I.e. right now. I was in shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops on Saturday in 21c warmth. Today i have a jumper and coat on. I think September can now almost be viewed as a semi Summer month. It’s possible and becoming common to get heatwaves, or lengthy dry and warm spells. Yes it’s not great to get a hot September after a poor Summer, but it’s a month that can deliver. In fact it’s more likely to than May, which is the shoulder month pre Summer. You’d never get 5 consecutive days above 30c in May as we did in September last year.
  23. 2013 Spring was cold, but the Summer was generally pretty good. June was chilly, but July 2013 was excellent with a 27c average maximum. August was also OK, with a 24.3c average max, a little sunnier than normal and about average rainfall.
  24. Earthshine drops to 11c tomorrow. I’ll be in Zurich tomorrow and Wednesday and it’s not going to get higher than 9c on Wednesday.
