  1. Where's the downgrade then? Still extreme warning for Hampshire,Oxfordshire and Berkshire issued at 1633 and thats all of Hants not just the north, rain turned to snow here a while back.
  2. Cant believe how downbeat it is in here, this rain/sleet was forecast on the coast but turning to snow later on as the main band moves south pulling the colder air behind it and then keeps rotating giving us hours and hours of heavy snow, dont think they would issue a red warning lightly.
  3. They did say it would start as rain or sleet but the main band hasnt even arrived from the north yet so I wouldnt worry too much, once it all meets up is when the snow starts and then it just keeps wrapping around giving more snow.well in theory anyway but still looking good even on the coast.
  4. Dont panic like someone said your just getting bits coming off the channel but brace yourself for whats going to occur this evening VERY HEAVY SNOW!! Check out the meto RED WARNING totally unheard of down here if this pans out as they say it will make any snowfall of the 1980;s look like a mere dusting could be nearly 2ft of snow I really hope this comes off.Is This really going to happen???????????
  5. I know mate posted on here a couple of times no response so gave up seen more action watching paint dry. SW,SE and model much more interesting.
  6. Know exactly how ya feel seems to change on a daily basis, but to be fair they are correct whichever way you look at it as they are going on the information that the models supply, and its better for them to forecast a risk of heavy snow but all it does is rain than to say well it will just be rain and it turns up as snow and then they get slated for getting it wrong. I don't see anything nailed on as they say regardless of what the weather forecast is or what's being said in the models thread I only believe it now when it actually happens,so I expect nothing but prepared for anything.
  7. Was starting to get excited about this forecast but looks like its all changed again, just good old rain for us in the south now,and looking at the outlook for the 14 days i really cant see any snow at all amazing how much can change in a couyple of days.
  8. I was driving at the time and only realised when my wheels were just spinning, managed to get home at crawl of about 5mph.it was the people on foot i felt sorry for loads falling over some had even taken there shoes off and walking in there socks, but the reason so many cars were getting smashed people braking.
  9. Sorry only just logged back on,nothing to worry about there as this occurred earlier on this morning around 7am I think and luckily no one had any serious injuries.
  10. WARNING!!Freezing rain all across Southampton and some surrounding areas, everywhere is covered with a sheet of ice warning to anyone thinking of travelling its very dangerous.Already 20 car pile up M27 westbound just before rownhams services 30-40 car pile up on the A35 No buses or trains and people falling over everywhere never seen anything like it very spooky.
  11. Surprised its raining there as Basingstoke heavy snow all afternoon even Winchester here in Southampton I lost count the amount of times its turned from rain to snow and back again
  12. I was just going to post that the snow had turned to rain but having just looked out...its snowing again, very strange it keeps on changing cant say I can remember it chopping and changing like this, then again ive just spoken to someone who lives about 3 miles up the road and its been snowing all afternoon.
  13. Dont know what part of Southampton your in mate but Im in Shirley and its still snowing not as heavy but def snow.
  14. Just had to take a reality check looked out the window and its proper snowing really heavy cant believe it
  15. Has turned to sleet now in Southampton looks line anywhere north of Winchester should get some snow but looking at MO warnings it does show Hampshire out of the flash warning but it seems the colder air is now moving to the west and the whole of the south east not as cold. still very messy and still just about anything could happen.
  16. Looks like the main band pushing up from the channel has just hit southampton and its SLEET more rain tho id say pretty much a washout by the looks of it,be interesting to see how far north it starts to turn to snow.
  17. what a mixture just about everything thrown in bar the kitchen sink, just come back into Southampton and its black ice everywhere, but prob not going to last as BBC Solent weather says rain today warmer tomorrow and positively balmy come Xmas for this area. what a let down I really thought this cold was going to become established but who knows 24Hrs is a long time as far as the weather goes let alone a week,so still hoping really the cold will put up a fight and re-establish itself.
  18. What I cant figure out is Netweather forecast has this cold spell breaking down around the 23rd and back to mild, but Metcheck are sticking by their guns and predicting the cold to last right through Xmas and into the new year? In fact according to metcheck from Friday onwards the temps not going to rise above freezing for the next 14 days!fantastic if it comes off but I dont know where they are getting their data from as have just checked GFS and it does seem to support a breakdown just before Xmas.
  19. Cant believe it snowed in Southampton yesterday evening not a lot BUT IT SNOWED@!!and this side of Christmas!!! AND saints scored in the last 30seconds and beat Norwich 6-5 on penalties unbelievable!!!! If we get snow anything like this will be the icing on the cake.yes that is a road believe it or not that was Feb this year top of Zig-Zag hill (as I call it) Shaftsbury there were 3ft drifts in places but the scary thing was to the left its about a 300ft drop so any mistakes and i would have been toast luckily was in a 4x4 so got through but loads of cars stuck on the hill. Thought id pass through Salisbury on the way home and do a bit of off roading and that puddle turned out to be about 4ft deep got a bit wet but it was fun.The strange thing was got back to Southampton and no snow, lets hope we all get some this time.
  20. I take the BBC weather forecast now with a pinch of salt don't think they even mentioned the word SNOW until yesterday and there was no chance of snow on the south coast, well what was that white stuff falling out of the sky last night then?yes it snowed in Southampton and as far west as Swindon so I cant understand where this mild air is coming from then, there is no battleground at the moment the wind is coming from a cold direction so its COLD. Now I don't know a lot about how the models work but as far as I can see and judging by a lot of posts on here the models seem to be suggesting a prolonged cold period right through Christmas and into the new year, in fact I looked on Metcheck and they are saying temps more or less below freezing for the next 14 days and I know that some of the experts on here have been suggesting this cold right from the end of November, and the post in particular THE EYE IN THE SKY who was confident of an easterly and here it is. Good call mate, but maybe, just maybe this will be a winter that will be talked about for years to come.
  21. Thought id join this forum just to get my pennies worth in and to sum up this winter so far (i dont think its over just yet) it has been memorable for a number of reasons Firstly i cant remember EVER seeing dry powdery snow right down here near the south coast it just never happens and i have lived in Southampton since 1981 but last Sunday was the exception i was driving at the time it started to snow and could not believe it when i saw the outside temp was reading -3.9!! i know its common over in places like Russia but down here on the south coast not a chance. Secondly when ever we do get the snow which is nit often it usually lasts a day if that and then it turns mild and thats it but this time snow was laying on top of previous snow all across the south but not just for a day but over a week,i was quite amazed last Saturday when i had to drive down to Shaftsbury and on the way back i got up on top of zig zag hill and it was a complete whiteout it was scary not being able to see the road for the simple fact if you go over the edge its about a 300ft drop i was lucky enough to be in a 4x4 but that didnt stop me from getting stuck in a 3ft snow drift and finally i think just about every part of the country has seen snow this year not just a dusting but a good couple of feet in places i also drove through swindon which seems to have been the best placed for the snow which has lasted there for over a week. All this is a good enough reason why this winters snow will stick in my mind for a long time to come, but if you remember it was either the start of march 2005 or 2006 it snowed every day until the middle of march ok it was only showers but it ended with the south east getting a dumping of a couple of feet so who knows might happen again.
