Comments from this year.

"A very droughy year.  In Essex in 1709 26.5 inches of rain, whilst in 1714 only 11 inches of rain"

" A remarkable drought, at Upminster the rainfall was only 11.2 inches

"Was the commencement of a set of a dry years which continued to the end of 1719"

Jan: cold but little in the way of frost

Feb: first half as mild of May, from the 14th to the end squally, with some frosts

March: glorious days, the grass had to be mown on the 13th and 31st.

April: in the beginning, very cold, with snow and hail lying 2 inches thick; on the 3rd of April a very sharp frost (froze within doors) this frost lasted 4 or 5 days. From 9th to the 17th warmer than often in May or June. 

May: very dry with thunderstorm and hail on 19th

June: mostly dry

July: 7th, the air swarmed with butterflies. 

August: 9th to 12th: great and  fierce rains with thunder and lightning and a dreadful hailstorm

October: mild

November: mild and dry

December: 7th to 9th, 26th to 29th hard frosts

"A good harvest and much fruit"

"Very little grass in spring and no fog or addish"
