After reading a few things about the year of 1964 I think it is overall a good year for weather with lots of stuff to like.

first of all the winter of 1963/64 was very dry and I think one of the driest on record with January being one of the driest of the century.

then spring came along and March was slightly cool and April was a bit milder  then usual but then May came along and was very warm with a CET of 13.3C only a little cooler then the warmest May on record at that time 13.4C.

Surprisingly unlike a lot of summers of 1960s this one wasn’t actually that bad yes June was dull and unsettled but July and August especially August was quite sunny and dry with the magic 90 degrees being reached on 26th august which was in the top 5 hottest days of the decade.

September also sounds really good with some places having 150% of the average of sunshine.

October was dry and cool but not without exceptions with 22C being reached on the 5th.

November was a little warmer then average but unlike a lot of warm Novembers it was actually drier then average.

December was probably the worst month of the not feeling very seasonal with it being wet and stormy with flooding at times but Christmas Day sounds great being cold and sunny.

some things to note it was unsurprisingly from what I’ve just written a very dry year probably the driest on record.

1964 was the driest year in my life in the EWP series.

In the 1950's and 60's, one could virtually guarantee a poor summer if in an even year. 1964 was the first even year of my life during which the summer was not a poor one with probably the best August in the 1960's.

A Face like Thunder There was also quite a heavy fall in (I think) mid-January in far southern England with some heavy falls on the South Downs - in Dec 2022 I did a thread which reviewed the winters from about 1946-70 with a focus on snow.

Summer8906 January 12th, 1964. This inconspicuous trough (pretty cold air aloft IIRC) dumped 6 inches of snow over the North Downs and 12 inches on the south coast in a month that otherwise was bone dry. Nowadays I'm sure the same set up would bring anticyclonic gloom, drizzle and some very faint snow grains...
