After a grey, gloomy morning, the afternoon has been more pleasant in west London with sunny spells, quite a fresh breeze and temperatures around average at 22°C

HarvSlugger May 2018 40mm, June 14mm and July 45mm here but with that exceptional 12 weeks within the 3 months of just 44mm. May 1st 2018 had 17mm here and the last few days of July were wet (over 30mm) without these it would have been comparable with Summers 1995 and 1976.

Anyone remember what winter 2015/16 was like? Considering that 2015 has been the ideal analogue for this summer

raz.org.rain Yes, December was the warmest (by far) on record and January and February were both above average, but not excessively so.  However, a big difference that year was a Super Nino, so not a great analogue for winter.

HarvSlugger Longest absolute drought here (15 or more consecutive days under 0.2mm) was 22 days in September 2014 with no runs longer than 15 days since.

Don ECMWF still suggesting a very northerly jet for DJF, so whatever happens I'm praying it's at least dry. Wet winters are just god awful

Looks like about 24c is the Heathrow max so far today. Better than forecast.

raz.org.rain If this year is a repeat of 2015 and you're hoping for a dry winter, you'll be very very disappointed.

NOAA seem to be going for a not too strong La Niña, surprised to see it's expected to return to neutral by Spring too

 B87 for here:

June: 7/30

July 7/31

August 7/31

I actually didn't realise until now that all 3 summer months here had the same number of rain days. Interesting coincidence.

Weather-history so many thunderstorm warnings maybe... usually the kiss of death for widespread thunderstorms  though.

Yes ofcourse, maxes are often reached for only a short period of time.

Looks like the maxes so far today are 24c in London, 25c over towards Southend and Shoeburyness.
