There is nothing at all that stands in the way of Cat5, no shear, record sea temps...

The latest HRWF has Beryl making landfall in Jamacia as a low end Cat 4, then avoiding the Yucatan peninsular and making it into the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico while likely restrengthening to a high end Cat 4 storm. However, conditions are expected to become less favorable for her as shear increases later on this week.

Summertime Sadness Hope they are ok. As Ryan Hall (Extreme weather YouTuber) would say, tell them to put as many walls between them and the outside world as possible, but get to higher ground instead of the basement in this case, due to storm surge risk.

My word. The outflow at the upper levels was something that was frequently seen with Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), just to add.

Looking at the constant development of new hot towers around the eye wall, this could be Cat 5 before we know it.

philglossop not really, 1886 was America's worst Hurricane season  . 7 recorded over land ,probably more out at sea, all at or towards the highest Saffir Simpson level. Two big ones recorded in June ,which never happens anymore. 1780 was also one of the deadliest hurricane season for usa.

Beryl was downgraded to a Cat 3 overnight (UK time), but current Hurricane Hunter flight just measured wind speeds at 135.8 mph putting Beryl firmly back into Cat 4 territory. Forecast track is taking it right over Ronde Island just NE of Grenada. The eye is currently bigger than Grenada, never mind tiny Ronde Island.

NHC has upgraded Beryl back to a Cat 4. The swiftness of change with this hurricane is astounding.

ANYWEATHER The 1886 season was active in June but the 3 storms that formed in that month only reached category 2. Hurricane Beryl meanwhile became a strong category 4 hurricane in the space of 24 hours which is very unusual for June,

Beryl is now 7 mph away from Category 5. She has just made landfall on Carriacou island, with sustained winds of 150mph and gusts up to 175mph. Hurricane hunter flights have had to abandon (quite rare even in Cat 5s) due to large turbulence from mesovortecies within the eye.

Summertime Sadness i think it went South of the island and it was 'just' stormy for the island.

Although, one of the Jolly Roger pleasure ships went down in one of the harbour; it was moored offshore, dont think anyone was actually onboard.

Most intense hurricane season on record incoming, caused by the extremely high SSTs encouraged by El Nino and the subsequent emergence of La Nina encouraging strong trade winds. I can see numerous world records being broken this year. This strong of a hurricane this early is just ridiculous. If anyone said that this was going to happen a year ago, they probably would've been put in a padded cell.

Gusts up to 69mph in Barbados, earlier today, as it passed south of the island, so in hurricane terms they dodged a bullet, although some storm surge was experienced in parts of the island.

But in last hour it has slammed into Grenada, with gusts up to 140mph apparently.
