Was driving the lorry back from Birmingham earlier around midnight, and after the torrential rain earlier on the way, there was some very low cloud racing along against some convection in the distance reflecting off the city lights s

and I thought to myself that it could be a stormy morning, sure enough when I was on the m1 looking south I saw multiple flashes and was certain there wasnt that many  speeding along 🤣 although I wasn’t certain as every time I saw a flash a speed camera was r too far away🤣Anyway windows down to keep me awake in my last leg back and all I can smell is convective rain smell lol , I know it’s a term but don’t know what it’s called, but I’ve always related it to thunderstorms, someone tell me so I don’t sound nuts, it’s  like a warm tropical smell 🤣🤣🤣Anyway I checked the radar before setting of  and sure enough sure the big features moving NE from Bristol ways so the flashes may well have been lightning as the sky did seem to illuminate aswell as the road infront, was tired and wasn’t certain. Definitely very humid earlier this evening and after the heavy rain. The UKV suggests some thunderstorms around our area 5/6 am but who knows. Good luck all

Zak M Me - see your comment, gets out of bed, dressed, stairs obsessively at distant sky! Thinks may of seen the most dullest of flicker! That's how starved of storms I feel.  🤣

Petorious Haha! Well, I'm certainly not too optimistic about anything happening in this region, but I'm keeping an eye on those storms NW of Oxford 👀

Zak M yes it must be, I can usually smell the rain but it’s sometimes more prominent when it’s warm and muggy. And it was definitely about this evening. It’s a nice smell because most of the time it means a storms on the way! Well I like to hope so anyway.

Purples in that hairline of a squall. Pretty intense - would be excellent to hear what that’s like as it goes over

Flash and prolonged thunder here about 15 minutes ago. Woke me up, sadly to the south and clearing.

Nice surprise to see them considering the low risk.

Some bright lightning along with some booming thunder, still going on and close. Quite long pauses between, so not an overly strong storm but nice to see.

Good storm. A lot of flashes seen and thunder heard. Rain was absolutely torrential when it passed over.

Another day worth keeping an eye on the sky.  Slight risk from Estofex and ESSL, there's more CAPE around the UK today.

Small thunderstorm at 4 ish but one of the biggest downpours I've seen alongside it, insanely heavy rain. If it has to rain at this time of year this is how I want it!

Hi, longtime user previously under the name ‘Staffordshire’ can no longer access that account as I need to login with my email now.

i am currently under that estofex l2 in N Italy, the shores of lake como.

there is evidence of quite damaging rain from earlier this week and I am a little worried about being able to drive out of here tomorrow AM.

is anyone able to give me a bit of an idea of what things may be like here over the next 24 hrs?

thank you all!

The little storm that raced through here developed just offshore from Sidmouth at 00.10, went over my location just after 01.40 and lost its intensity near Abingdon around 02.45!

That’s approximately 120 miles in 2 and a half hours!

It was a few hours of distant faint heat lightning flashes to the south and southeast for here as the storms in the Southwest were moving across. Didn’t see any direct lightning or hear any thunder but it’s still better than nothing.

Here are some pictures of unstable mid-level clouds I took yesterday evening before it got dark.
