Although today was overcast, it was very dry and quite chilly.  It was actually a pleasant walk, feeling autumnal with that bonfire smell!

Been in Gibraltar since Monday, rained a lot, but lots of quite heavy rain and a moderate thunderstorm Tuesday morning.

Feel lucky to have avoided the worst of it. Those poor folk in Valencia 😞

TheOgre I blame the front that ruined things on Monday. We had lovely clear air before that, which could've been trapped within this high bringing sunny days... but this is 2024 so oooooh no.

Finally some movement! A westerly has appeared overnight and has ripped the cloud layer to pieces this side of the Pennines.

Yesterday - low, grey, barely got light.

Today - Sparkling sunshine.

Amazing contrast from such static synoptics.

Not sure I’ve seen any sun in 4 or 5 days now. Hopefully this everlasting pattern of cloud and murk that has really been in place since the end of June 2023 has to break at some point.

Mapantz same thing day in, day out.

The girl I was dating has gone back to Brazil for a bit and she was sending me photos of the weather there, some degree of sun every single day.

Her description to me about the British climate before (she'd lived here about a year by this point) "it's like being stuck inside a tupperware box. One that's often filled with condensation" 🤣

Interesting to see perspective from an outsider who has simply never seen the sort of conditions where there's days upon days or even weeks on end with zero sun whatsoever.

I imagine it must feel quite weird tbh.

Many people on this forum still don’t realise just how dull the UK climate is. There are very few places in the world where’s days or weeks can pass at any time of the year with barely any sun.

 Penrith Snow

Yep.

No getting away from it , we get the crud in summer and we get unrelenting crud through Autumn and winter.

Even with a 1025mb high it rains.

Disgusting .

I think the worst weather in the country is in the Midlands. No matter what, we get the thickest cloud. No wonder Sheffield gets more sun than Birmingham.

Kind of similar for me but reversed!

After visiting Fuerteventura over 15 times now since 2017, it's incredible how in November I experienced temperatures warmer than 98% of days in the summer (2023) back here, or almost a week of nonstop sun with only a day of thunderstorms such as last December there, no wonder people are happier there. The only drawback I can see in a place like there is with so little rain there is virtually no trees and it's mostly barren, but personally I like that especially by the coastline. So much of the planet with a much better climate than here!

Looks like some blue skies slowly coming up from the south, may reach us shortly.

The far reaches of Scandinavia, Siberia and Canada aren't what id call "many places" very few people live there, for obvious reasons.

Alderc 2.0 Yes. It the climate is fine from a perspective of temperatures and extreme weather, but its definitely up there with the dullest.

The likes of Iceland, Faroe Islands, parts of Norway and Newfounland are duller, but that's how low the bar is.

TonyH I shouldn't have commented as people are quick to challenge on here. Please see the source below. I saw these stats a few months ago and was surprised too.

Explore daylight hours of sunshine in Sheffield throughout the year. May shines with an average of 199 hours, while December sees the least with 47 hours.
