You make a good point here, today's forecast has temperatures on average widely around 12-13C, most areas are not even double figures yet and I had a look back at the week ahead forecasts on the iPlayer and even just a few days ago, temperatures were forecast to be around 14-15C today!  The caveat being it looked like a slightly different set up with more South to southwesterly winds with a front in western areas whereas winds are more south to south easterly but even so, i think most of the max temperatures on the TV forecasts have been a degree or two too high and they were initially too optimistic the drier air was going to break up the cloud.

I certainly would not describe today as a mild day apart from northern Scotland. Temperatures look around average too me.

MetO on Youtube every evening forecasts "mild" temperatures ranging from 12-13 or even 14C for us in the Midlands during the past 10 days or so. I have not yet seen temperature above 10oC since this gloom started.

Frigid Thanks, Frigid.  Have seen the name and a few posts with it.

N.B. My virus/internet defender does not like the link you offered - something about an unmatched security certificate.

No idea how such software works, by the way, Frigid.  Don't know whether it can be oversensitive or what.  To be fair to it, I do not get many alerts at all, so I thought it best to mention.  Not wishing to cast aspersions on site (which I have seen quotes from several times) but thought it was best to mention.

IslaArklayblend Most likely an expired SSL certificate. I get the same issue on my PC, but completely normal on phone. I've been using it for years no issues 🙏

I've got 2 weather stations at 10m above ground for wind but they both show 92% humidity,I was wondering, will it be basically the same humidity even near the ground? At like 2m or whatever

HarvSlugger Probably depends on aspect and conditions. In still conditions at night or winter, likely no - I'd expect a higher humidity nearer the ground - that's where dew/frost form first, after all.

In mobile conditions, especially if you have an open aspect, more likely yes conditions will be the same.

Imagine if we had anything close to a continental European climate? Clear, cold, frosty (and in the summer...there's no comparison)

One can dream....

Will still take this gloomy but dry weather over the wet and windy weather we usually get at this time of year any day of the week.

An incredibly dry and hot southerly wind today earlier, now has calmed down. Reached 30°C here, down to 28°C currently. Inland east of here had a reading of 32.7°C an hour ago.

Pretty much hotter than almost all days in summer, incredible how much difference the wind direction / strength can make! Feels quite bearable though due to such a low humidity (20-30%).

Various atmospheric optics spotted today due to all that high cloud; sun halo / sun dog.

danm what about a mixed bag? I feel like we don't often *not* see the sun for this long of a period at this time of year haha, even if it is indeed often wetter.

I'd personally prefer something like:

- windy and wet day

- sunny and still day

- cloudy and mild day

- frosty day

- and repeat

It's the first single digit maximum of the season, at my location. The AWS topped out at 9.0c. Living nestled on the edge of woodland, it's an unusual November, because the trees aren't dropping leaves very quickly - lack of wind and mild temperatures are helping the ash trees (we have many) hold onto some green leaves, and the dead leaves are refusing to drop off. My peak gust this month is only 3mph.

In Absence of True Seasons yeh the problem is that isn’t what usually happens. In Autumn, wet and windy is usually the result of a strong jet stream that barrels in low after low. We don’t often get the totally mixed bag of weather you describe, so as gloomy and dull as it is, I’m glad we don’t have a soggy, windy mess.

 I remember Atlantic 252

Unless we get a SSW which favours colder air advecting to the UK, only real way can get something wintry in the second half of winter these days but that sometimes goes into spring as you mentioned.

Well I'm glad to see from the Mod thread that winter may not be over already.

I'm not sure I understand the current interest in 10hPa zonal mean wind charts. The latest chart is almost the same as last years on the same date.

Don’t want to hear the term SSW really. Late season warming post the new year we’re contributing factors to the springs of 2023 and this year being complete disasters

Latest ECM shows a Pembrokeshire dangler, that's one good thing for me, they are so common, hardly ever get a northerly wind without one to be honest, just hardly fall right on to me or not cold enough for snow.

Not a coldie by any means, but it doesn't feel like Christmas unless it's a bit chilly, so looking forward to the upcoming cool change.
