The summer has been strangely average so far, something quite uncommon these days. I think August will be the warmest month of the season but not by much, so staying with the largely average theme.

16.6C and 95mm. Thanks

Don I wouldn't be surprised if it actually came off. This year has been nothing but surprises, conversely I also wouldn't be surprised if it got into the 19s.

Going to go for a very hot and dry August. Thinking a warm and slightly changeable first half, then a very hot and dry second half with a notable spell of heat from the south.

For that reason I'll go for 18.5C and 35mm.

Ok, I'll bite.

I'm feeling an August that against the odds returns to the record anomalies around the 10th and ends up very hot, perhaps the June 2023 of August. I don't think it'll quite smash the records to pieces: 2022 will remain the hottest along the east coast and 1995 in the far west, and 1947 will remain the hottest in Scotland - Or perhaps like the record months of late barring Sept 2023, Scotland will have the biggest anomaly and reduce its record to dust. However it happens, it'll overall even out to be just about equal to 1995 nationally, or very slightly below. I don't think an extreme dry period will come with this though, as with June 2023 I see notably dry overall but with high humidity and thundery outbreaks here and there.

It's been some time now since we've had an August that was hot and quite easterly. As the summer has been cool up until this point that could be an ideal condition for August to behave more like earlier July than usual.

On that basis, I'm going to go for:

19.1°C, between 1997 and 1995, and

36.6mm total rainfall.

Don Kind of, but a bit different. I'm really thinking that we haven't really had much in the way of notable heat in the second half of August, and more especially the last third. First half of August has provided quite a few hot spells, but a lot of Augusts take an autumnal turn in the second half and then it's September that provides a last days of summer kind of feel early on. So it would be a bit different if the big heatwave were to happen in the closing days of the meteorological summer.

WYorksWeather Agreed, I feel we'll see something a bit different this year, perhaps a 35 around bank holiday.
