So far in your lifetime, what year has been your favourite birthday in regards to weather?

So for example, my birthday falls on the 26th of November. In terms of weather, my favourite birthday so far was in 2010. I recall there being a light dusting of snow on that day which was a nice surprise seeing as my birthday is more often than not dull and on the mild side. Little did I know at the time that it was the beginning of a great winter.

Mine falls on 19th July.  The obvious choice is 2022, but I like a good thunderstorm too, and both 2014 and 2017 delivered on that front.

Other good years 2016, 2013, 2006 and 1993.

Mine is 13th July so generally the weather is good. Have to say most years I have been very lucky with the weather even in the poor Julys.

My favourites would have to be probably 2021, 2018 and 2003. All these days had temperatures in the mid 20’s (2003 in the high 20’s) and unbroken sunshine all day.  Absolutely stunning days.

2019, 2013, 2010, 2009, 2006, 2005 and 2002 all deserve a mention too as they were also quite warm and sunny, however nothing exceptionally warm or anything temperatures were either at or slightly above average.

The only years I can think of where my birthdays have been total write offs for weather (cool, wet and dull all day) were 2008, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017. All the other years have maybe had a heavy shower but still some pleasant weather in between.

My birthday in 2007 I remember it being dry and sunny here but cool.

Philip Eden wrote in one of his Telegraph articles that my birthday, 22nd June, is one of the most reliably dry sunny days of the year, and since his premature death to Lewy Body dementia in 2018 I have had seven dry sunny birthdays in a row.

I generally see a dry sunny day as a good "second prize" but I admit that ideally I am keen on showers and thunderstorms as well as sun. From that point of view 1999 (living in South Tyneside there was a tornado to the west of me on the morning of 22 June 1999) and 2003 (thunderstorms on and off through the morning, followed by a sunny afternoon) stick out. 2000 produced a convective day with sun and sharp showers. My all-round favourite was probably the one in 2003.

Of the dry sunny ones, 2010 was probably my favourite as it was the starting day of a very fine, sunny spell following a week of predominantly cool and cloudy weather. I was in Norwich and it got to 26-27C. 22 June was also very near the beginning of a very fine spell in 1995 and 2018, when it abruptly flipped from being dry but cloudy to being very sunny, so those are other favourites. I note that my favourite years for weather - 1995, 2003, 2010, 2018 - also appear in my favourite birthdays list, which is fitting.

2007 was a rather frustrating one because on the Tyneside coast I had a dry sunny day with a bit of haar/sea fret late on and inland parts of the region had heavy showers and thunderstorms, and elderly relatives phoned me to say how lucky I had been to escape the bad weather on my birthday. 2017 was a disappointment because it had been hot and sunny in Exeter for a week and then a change to dull weather arrived for my birthday. I have largely been spared dull wet weather on my birthday, the only marked exception being 2012, on the third of three consecutive Fridays when a large autumnal depression hit Britain.

24th September for me and 2021 was incredible. Proper lovely summer weather and still in that "everything's back!" post-Covid buzz, enjoying drinks with friends and a family meal in the evening which had been so rare that year before then. Seem to remember my 21st in 2009 also taking place in a lovely September spell, and to cheat a bit 2017's took place in Australia so that was naturally glorious.

In contrast I remember 2010 being astonishingly cold and a precursor to how memorable that winter would be!

SummerShower Your birthday seems to be a good day for summery weather. In the last 10 years, 6 of them were very warm or hot even during otherwise mediocre summers (2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2024). It's a pity thunderstorms are in short supply these days though.

18th June.

2017 by the far the hottest I've experienced with a max of about 30°C.

For thunderstorms the best year was 2023 seeing a well defined shelf cloud just outside Melton Mowbray.

2005 was another hot one before strong thunderstorms the following day but too young to remember that.

Often an unsettled day itself with all birthdays between 2019 and 2023 being wet dull days.

My birthday is the 22nd of February. I’ve had a mixture of conditions in my lifetime. Years I fail to mention are ones I don’t remember.

The first I remember is 2008 which was my 7th birthday. I don’t remember it for the weather though, I remember it because I was severely ill! I remember it being very mild and cloudy.

2011 was cold and raw with thick grey skies. Probably one of the few “colder” spells of that month.

2013 is the only instance I remember snow falling. We went to our nearest country park and it was a bitterly cold cloudy day with snow grains.

2015 poured with torrential rain all day, probably the wettest birthday I’ve had.

2018 was cold with crystal clear skies all day.

2019 was warm with crystal clear skies all day!!! I think this was one of the days that reached 20C so I have the distinction of having a winter birthday that has seen both snow and 20C sunshine.

For some reason I cannot remember the weather on my birthday since then though. 😬

Best were 2013, 2018 and 2019 and the worst was 2015.

Mine is 23rd July, so the weather is almost always good (even 2023 was a largely sunny day!)

Favourites though would have to be 2013 and 2019 though. The former had spectacular thunderstorms in the early hours, then it turned hot and sunny again by the afternoon. The latter was the other way around with a hot and sunny day, followed by tremendous thunderstorms starting just around midnight (so technically the 24th).

Honourable mention also goes to 2012... a wall to wall sunshine day which felt like a real novelty given how rubbish July had been up to that point.

My birthday is January 31st and can remember a few occasions it has snowed on my birthday, even down here in the relatively balmy west country, so they would be my favourites.

My mum tells me a couple of days after me being born in 69 we were travelling home from hospital in a raging blizzard and the car getting stuck in the snow.

Maybe this is where my interest in the weather started 🙂

John88B I’ve a photo somewhere of my grandparents’ North Somerset house under a thick blanket of snow on 31/01/1991. Do you remember that snowfall? It was a year before I was born.

MP-R yes I can remember that one quite clearly along with the empty roads and sitting in a nice warm pub all evening with the lads sinking a few beers 👍

Got to be 2003 for me. Was the year I turned 18 and coincided with the heatwave at the time with the will we or won't we break the all time max temp record from 1990.

1995 was also another decent one from a heatwave perspective too.

A mention to both 1996 and 1997 for thundery activity on my birthday, both right at the end of short hot and humid spells

2007 I remember as a dry but cool day. Just missed the heat which came the day before.

As my birthday is 20th February, snow is traditionally the most interesting type of weather experienced.

In 1969 we were sent home from school at lunchtime because of the snow.

In 1996 I was staying in my late mother-in-laws' house in Kent and lying snow was being whipped up by a strong wind. We could not travel anywhere.

For fine warm weather, it would probably between 1961 and 1989. I vaguely remember unseasonal spring like weather in 1961, and in 1989 I had a pub lunch outside in sunshine.

I have not experienced sleet or snow on my birthday since 2010.

My birthday's 11th April. My favourite so far in terms of weather was 2020, being the earliest 25c day we've ever recorded here. Absolutely incredible cloudless day that felt like mid July, right as I got really interested in weather that spring, really set the benchmark for spring weather that I don't think will be matched for years to come. 2019 was also cloudless.

The most interesting was probably 2021, an Arctic feeling day and probably not the best day to go swimming as I did. Single digits all afternoon but alternating between clear sunny skies and random hail showers with no warning.

The worst - 2023. Torrential rain all day on a day I planned to have a garden party. 2024 wasn't much better, 24 hours of drizzle despite a sunny forecast.

From 2009-2020 my birthday was always reliably sunny and dry, even in poorer Aprils like 2012/2013/2016, but since 2021 it's been poor.

My birthday is may 27th and I’ve always loved my birthday because it’s right near the start of summer the days are long I mostly got it off due to the week of around them

2021 2022 2023 were a great streak for my birthday with each one having spells of lovely sunshine and I seem to remember that 2022 and 2023 generally felt very warm especially 2023 2024 was more meh 2018 was also great from what I remember felt like a summers day I have no memory of the 2017 storms on my birthday though worst would probably be 2019 I got a hoodie and trackies for my birthday that year wore them out to dinner and walked around very easily which is not seasonal at all 😂

Interesting that is considering 18th June is often quite unsettled. Must be down to fronts / low pressure systems clearing away shortly after around my birthday!

Mine is 5th December, year on year its the same mild nondescript weather but there have been exceptions.

2010 for obvious reasons. Can vividly remember it being quite cold and snowy.

image.thumb.png.2bcd73e2316beb1b38369830117a3cd2.png  image.thumb.png.b91ae5a0fdd61b68a47b6d82b7d8cb2c.png

2012 was another great birthday.

image.thumb.png.70c7ea9713a3ab04e6b67ab35a71d82f.png  image.thumb.png.90ae5a9302849484f81d00f09c468995.png

2014 wasn't that cold but had some nice sunshine and frosts

image.thumb.png.5f8ffbe34ac4567a28f85eb20079b887.png  image.thumb.png.652ac069dcfe14dad1f188b2c79c5543.png

You can see a theme here. 2016 was another great birthday, with frosts and sunshine. The pattern doesn't suggest it, but it did feel cold.

image.thumb.png.9213cfcedfa7ca2bc59a3ee3c682cdd6.png  image.thumb.png.a03d367167c53d4d96f4012385377abf.png

2018 was so close, the 4th being quite cold. But 2020 was once again a good birthday. A chilly, raw feel that day.

image.thumb.png.f56b792da1efdf58ccef95306d4e4868.png  image.thumb.png.15adbc473dc5e05df28f6684683ce2b0.png

And finally 2022, being quite cold with easterly winds.

image.thumb.png.d063b4efaf0acc99562bd983823c1790.png  image.thumb.png.994db2cbb4e4fe626047560a919ea508.png

Notice how all of them are even numbered years. 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 23 were all shocking.. especially 2015.

I'd say the best has to be 2010, for it's cold and snow. 2012 a close second.
