No air frost here but the coldest 13th September here in 99 years at 3°C this morning. Not sure on coldest first September temperatures though, perhaps since 1986.

-0.6c here in Rhayader this morning. Thick frost across lawn & cars, with ice formed on any puddles.

Even more suprising was the sleet and air temperature of just 5c on the mountain road from Machynlleth at 3pm yesterday afternoon!! Granted it is 1600ft asl there, but on the 12th September!?! 😱

Aleman A great note of the frost hollow weather stations. Typically often the coldest spot in the UK will be one of these stations, not always though Loch Glasgarnock, Aviemore, Carnwath, Leadhills often feature. -2.7 is notable.

Metwatch I remember the frost in late September 1986; I had a morning paper round, and it caught me by surprise......cold hands struggle putting papers through letter boxes.

HafrenLMP1 I had a paper round July 92-Oct 93, I remember the run of very frosty mornings in October 92, but was spared them in September. Thankfully winter 92-93 wasn't too cold, only late Dec really. Sept 93 was preety chilly, and I stopped just before the cold mid October of 93 and frosty November.

It generally coincided though with a period of not much warmth either in the warmer months!

A few places could record first air frost early hours Saturday. Borders, NE England most likely.

This thread always get lost I feel. A number of locations could go below 0 degrees early morning, and widespread ground frost in a number of English stations. Keep reports going please. Redesdale already down to 3.5 degrees.

The third ground frost this month last night, which is the most on record in September since a  continuous record of  grass min' temperatures began in 1998.  1986 would definitely have had more.

White roof this morning at 06.30, 4C on thermometer. Probably similar overnight again or slightly lower, unless it clouds up.

Frigid Yes, there's been a tendency for September to produce cold nights in the past few years.

As alluded to we had -5.0°C on the 24th of September 2020 at Altnaharra.

We also had -0.6°C on the 1st of September 2022 and -3.5°C on the 13th last year, both at Kinbrace.

All three are date records. We also had the notably frosty spell this year. An interesting quirk of recent Septembers.

A cold few nights ahead for many, we could scrape an air frost early hours of Friday, 3 ground frosts next 4 nights a cert here at least. Keep posting reports of first ground and air frosts.

Managed first air frost last night (-0.7C after 2 previous attempts which resulted in ground frost).

I am half a mile from the centre of Solihull, and the NNW wind has travelled over the whole of the W Mids connurbation to get here. So remarkably it was my second earliest air frost in over 40 years. .

Expect a large drop in the CET tomorrow from central areas..
