Hi - I wonder if anyone can help here? My wife has been merrily cutting back bushes in our garden & has managed to cut the cable that runs from the Vantage Pro 2 unit to the anemometer. I've re-connected the cable using block connectors & the wind vane works fine, but nothing from the anemometer.

Does anyone have any idea how I can find out whether its the anemometer or the Vantage Pro 2 unit that has failed? The anemometer is on top of a mast so isn't easily accessible. All the other sensors are working fine.

Kind regards - Chris N Stephenson........>

Chris Stephenson Yes, I've done that myself, Chris and have had VPros since 2000!

The wind speed and direction leads are together in the one cable.

Usually just a case of (preferably) soldering them together again after stripping about 1cm of insulation off of each lead, then wrapping up securely to keep water out with insulating tape - preferably one of those that stretches and is sticky.

Inner thin cables are red green yellow black - or similar.  If you go to Davis site, one of the first pages gives a link to the VP2 technical manual page.  I have it somewhere if you cannot get it.

Hi Isala - very many thanks for the note. Yep - I've done that! There are 3 wires - red, green & yellow. I've reconnected them using connector blocks (green to green etc) which I thought would fix the problem. Unfortunately although the wind direction vane seems to be working ok (no memory on the display though) there is no data at all coming from the anemometer! I've rebooted both the unit the anemometer plugs into along with the console, but no joy. I've a horrible feeling something rather more serious might have happened if the secateurs touched two wires as they cut through.

Unfortunately I can't find the Davis tech manual - any chance you could forward a copy to me if it's handy?

Kind regards - Chris S.........>

There should be four wires in the cable to reconnect.  The black one you didnt mention is responsible for the wind speed signal.

Haha - you are absolutely right reef - I've found a black wire! When I stripped the outer sheath back it was so deeply embedded in the sheath I didn't see it! A black wire in a black sheath! So, I stripped the sheath back further, found the black wire, reconnected it using a connector bock & hey presto - we are back in business! All I need to do now it to re-wrap the joint in self amalgamating tape & we should be ready for the winter!

So, many thanks reef - you saved me a lot of heartache!

Cheers for now - Chris S..........>
