 Alderc 2.0

And I don't disagree but most of them haven't been Kent clippers and have gone on to hit other areas of the country.

 viking_smb Nice!

I was talking more about the beeb/met!  They both mentioned heavy rain, but nothing on the scale of last night + storms

Interesting definition for the inbound low to the NW on Sunday from the Met Office

Looking at the fax chart for Sunday it does suggest that the deepest pressure of 955hPa will be similar to the storm that tracked across the UK 37 years ago, which had a lowest pressure of 953hPa, the difference being one tracked across the UK, whilst the other is out at sea.

Oct '87 storm

Highest winds 86 mph (139 km/h)

Highest gusts 134 mph (216 km/h)

Lowest pressure 953hPa (mbar); 28.14 inHg

Nasty squall line just passed through Lincoln. 3 mins of abysmal conditions.

Currently in Silverdale/Lancashire, forecast suggesting something thundery for the early hours tomorrow, but suspect at most heavy rain with the odd rumble

Very mild and almost a little soupy for an October night, by my senses anyway. As previously stated there’s some sharp showers in the southwest with marginal electrical activity within the heavier bursts.

Maybe some surprises for those on the southernmost and westernmost coasts as we move into the early hours?

A more vigorous squall line is developing via the outflow boundary of the original squall nr Worcester. Upon checking the soundings, convection appears to be underestimated, but there is a drier mid-level environmental layer which could balance out the Bergeron process, keeping mixed phase region proportionally mixed in terms of states of matter and allow for a few strikes.Screenshot_20241025_141820_Gallery.thumb.jpg.574f617982c81a8b4b8a1c1ea71d2934.jpg

Cloud base became higher later in the afternoon along with a shower around 17:00. Frontal clearance then produced some colour for sunset tonight!

Had some time from uni to finish editing the storm vids from this summer.

A rather quiet year for thunder round these parts with only 6/7 thunder days, of which most were just thundery showers. 11th of September was probably the best with some beautiful lightning despite being an unusually cold day.

Been posting in the European convective thread but deserves to be put in here as well.

An incredible crawler lightning display in Menorca last night that one of my friends saw. He's been spoiled this year for sure, seeing majority of the storms England has had this year too 😂

Meanwhile this is all of my lightning captures this year here, all from some rather brief storms coming in majority of the time via a cool unstable Atlantic airmass apart from the one in May (top left)

This has been the worst year I've ever known for storms.

For me here, 2021 was still the worst but 2024 wasn't far behind. 2021 had a combination of being unlucky and barely any storms around here; Heard a distant rumble in May, a storm or 2 in July apparantly which I was abroad for, and another in October where I was stuck in a physics test, and as soon as that finished the storm moved on. 2024 at least despite the 4/5 storms being quite shortlived they dropped a decent bolt or a few of them which I managed to capture, but again all were very brief storms.

Usually each year there is a focus for an area to be better than most other areas, so I wonder what 2025 will be like, maybe a east Anglia / Lincolnshire focused year for most storms 🤔

Morning all. 😊

Well, I say morning… It’s what most normal folk would call the middle of the night! ⏰😵‍💫

But I was not expecting a small thunderstorm to break out, with more snow fall this morning! ❄️☃️🌩️😳😃👍🏻

First thunder snow event of the season. 🌩️❄️☃️👌🏻👍🏻

It might help if I attach some images to help other members of this good forum. 🤦🏼‍♂️

As thunder snow events aren’t that common here in the U.K.

My parents just came into my room about 10mins ago and said they heard one loud rumble which took me by surprise as I was in the middle of watching TV.

Didn’t know there was supposed to be any thunder today, I guess it could have something to do with the colder and less saturated airmass we have over us at the moment?

It  could mean that any cumulonimbus cloud that forms is going to be producing lightning.

There is some incredible clear-air lightning coming out of that storm off the coast of Norfolk at the moment if anyone else has visuals of it
