Boom! Right on top of the trough, probably some land breeze convergence helped too.

Unfortunately I don’t know if I may have seen something here last night had I been looking because I didn’t see anything on the forecasts but I am not surprised some places had some lightning yesterday as I knew there was potential as soon as I got up in the morning as there were quite a few cumulonimbus clouds about bringing heavy showers and rainbows, even some hail in some of them.

Re the storms above, am I right in assuming these occurred overnight Nov 25/26?

Don't remember anything here - a clear Monday evening followed by a clear start to Tuesday. Or were they associated with Conall overnight 26/27?

Summer8906 Nothing to do with Conall. You are right in assuming that the storms occurred overnight November 25/26. I heard a couple of distant rumbles to SSW'ly shortly before 3 am on 26th.

Slight chance of thundery showers tonight near western coasts , heading into the midlands by early Thursday perhaps?

ECM and Arome seem to show something convective and thundery during the early hours. Hard to imagine storms in the Midlands during December but it's definitely there on some of the models.

Moderate to heavy rain here. Nimbostratus though, not expecting anything seriously convective tonight here in Midlands apart from a few embedded C. congestus. Speaking of Western coasts, this will be named and quite severe if it comes off...20241204_184740.thumb.jpg.776adfdd9c00ba8cee044fd1f7a8288c.jpg

Is it me or does this storm on fri/sat look like it could produce a sting jet somewhere in england and wales as it rapidly deepens. There’s quite a temperature difference with this to which could definitely aid one forming

The latest fax looks like it could. One more hazard to watch out for!

Small chance of a tornado dropping tonight. Even if no tornado it looks like winds will ramp up for a very short time in the midlands.

Low-level windfield with this system is certainly interesting. But think if anything the angle is still too small from what I've seen. May get some decent amount of streamwise vorticity but problem is that there's not much energy being put into rotation for that to be worth particularly much for tornadic potential risks though you never know and damaging winds are still likely with this system anyway. Breaks in any lines of convection would be the conventional and most likely way of spotting one tonight as that suggests that the winds will turn into a more rotational component.

Squall line passing through. Have seen heavier ones but certainly not too far off from being one of the more intense ones.

Looks like the squall was pretty interesting going over the peak district. Passed to the north of here but it seemed to accelerate through a long with sferics and intense echos.. this pic was from the A515 between bakewell and Buxton around the time
