dryfie they will never accept it unless they take the location under their wings. These frost hollows are only officially accepted in Czech Republic and USA. Its only handfull od people doing these measurements in each country. Lucky for you you have 2 guys in highlands researching these spots. I know of few in Europe elsewhere. We even have a closed group of european frost hunters. If you are interested what equipment they use its these ecowitt stations GSM mode with solar panels. The radiation shields are nowhere near as good to be comparable with what UKMO use but they do measure minimas quite accurately. I was the one who recommended Foregin in Scotland to guys to go there based on some landsat thermal images and geological profile, luckily I was right despite never been there but just remote steered them to right place.

-5.1C at Eden Park in N.Ireland is possibly a new low for them? Scotland and Northern England fell short last night but were pretty cold with -9.0C at Candacraig and -5.2C at Shap. A colder night is predicted tonight.

Fintona, N.Ireland had shows a sampling high of -0.8C today, and is already down to -2.6C, so the above -5.1C for N.Ireland might get beaten late this evening before southerlies set in later.

Yes preety cold this morning considering no particularly cold airmass. Tonight set colder. We don't need especially cold uppers to produce quite notable cold at this time of year.

Already -6s and -7s in Scotland and a scattering of subzeroes in Northern England so possible new lows there. Wales looks very likely for a  new low, with Lampeter at -2.7C already. -4s in RoI and -3s in Somerset, for example, so looks like widespread pipe-bursting temperatures everywhere tonight.

-12.2C at Inverlaidnan so only a marginal miss. Similarly close in Wales and N.Ireland. Considering dips between samplings, it's quite possible there are some obscure beats lurking somewhere but what I can see on WOW are just frustratingly close.

Edit - Got a Welsh -5.2C at Llanarmon-yn-ial on hourly sampling.

Aleman pretty sure it's been colder than that in Wales this Autumn. Lowest this month for West Wales Capel Curig -5.5c last week. Think Bala got down to -6.8c too.

damianslaw Other unoficial frost hollows in Europe this month. My own station is in second place - Polana in Slovakia but first below 1000m.asl and in the ranking you will find some European dolines that been researched from almost 90 years ago. We found Polana in 2022 🙂

The Scottish value would be very very reasonable despite its very very low altitude so well done frost Hunters Lee in Carrbridge and Chris in Breamar.

Top 3 Slovakian stations Polana,Cabanova Bucina and Ziar are all mine research and for example Ziar - Plesivecka planina is on a 43rd day in a row with frost measured which is truly amazing, but because its karst limestone doline it does get cold very quickly, even without snow cover myself was there at 17:50 with already -10.2°C and thats without snow cover on a day when T850hapa was +4°C

Castlederg has an hourly -5.9C so Northern Ireland might have a new low, previous lowest seen by this thread being -6.2C.

Castlederg low was actually -6.2C, so matching the N. Ireland low temperature previously noted on this thread for Katesbridge.
