The model highlights system is running - please use the insightful reaction on posts you think should be copied over to the highlights thread. lightbulbone.png
See here for thread info on this new more flexible general model and forecast discussion - there is an alternative 'strictly' model discussion thread available to post into (which includes the model highlights).

Looks like the next chase is on at Day 8+ if the GFS is to be believed

UKMO well on the way towards moving the high into the Atlantic and building, with a PV lobe headed UKwards, T168:

You’d think that would lower heights in Europe too down the line, with the high moved west.

Doesnt look too similar to the GFS though which has the trough pushing further into the US and flatter in the Atlantic

Good afternoon all,

Nice to see that attempts are made from day 5 onwards to create a MLB. The first attempt obviously fails, but I have get r impression that the following attempts might be more successful in creating a favourable situation for coldies. The models are obviously toying and the EC scenario of yesterday's 12z is followed today by the other models albeit of short duration. Northerlies are interchange by Westerlies but certainly aan interesting pattern which may result in a wintry setup in 10 days or a fortnite or so.

Mcconnor8 I'm off to Norfolk near the coast from 9th Dec so if there's one time I want a snowy wishbone effect northerly it's this week!! I was in Australia the last 2.5weeks so missed the flurries here in the SE!

 Mike Poole

One way Mike is a cut back jet around the bottom of the high eventually ridging towards Scandinavia as hinted on the 0z eps stamps.

The question is whether it gains enough latitude which is the area of greatest uncertainty on the final stamp.

booferking A notable feature I noted was the depth of cold early in Sept when we had a northerly, an eyebrow raiser I thought any northerlies will pack an extra punch this winter...

Jacob Now that's more like it! At least we have some good ensemble members popping up in FI again now, means we are back in the game for another cold spell.
