just a bit of wind here, it's more interesting than what this month has been but it's nothing special i would consider it.

Those wind speeds are unbelievably inaccurate

Was extremely windy here (Isle of Man) early hours 4am and onwards. Wind easing a little now. Under a police advisory not to take unnecessary journeys. Multiple roads closed for fallen trees and flooding , Glen Helen River has broken its banks.  Just yuck! I'm surprised our MetO didn't change the yellow advisory to an Amber one. Lots of impacts across the island. No snow.

They changed their data a few months ago, and wind speeds are now totally exaggerated. It's pretty much showing the same gust speeds as the Isle of Portland, which is so wrong.

It seems that topography isn't used anymore, but rather proximity to the coast.

60mph gusts are very rare here. Last time was Feb 14th 2014.

They need to change back to the old data, as that was far more accurate.

Xcweather is even worse. 35mph average wind speeds do not happen here. It's half of that!

Pressure now down to 939mb.

Wind gusts are beginning to increase for western coastal areas now.

For areas further inland, the strongest gusts are still many hours away, in fact more likely for later today into tomorrow, so not surprising that we're not seeing much as yet. As I mentioned in last night's post, another round of strong winds looks to affect Scotland and northern England on Monday as the low swings through.

Nothing to do with sensors, it's the forecast.

As I already mentioned, the old data was more accurate.

I don't know how I can put it across any simpler, but the new data is dreadful.

Just to add; My anemometer is above 10m, with no obstructions. It is barely recording 30mph gusts at the moment, with wind speeds of 16mph. I can also tell by being outside that it isn't what the forecast says.

We're not talking about couple of mph difference, it's 50% less.

That's a pretty big error.

Does anyone have any idea where a 938mb low fits historically for the North Atlantic? Obviously not going to be anywhere near the most impactful storms because it is remaining well offshore at its peak strength, but just wondering from a minimum central pressure perspective how close it is to any sort of record?

Bexhill ima little worried, we rarely get this strong if winds coming direct from the south, winds have already began to knock over small things. And we arnt expected the strongest winds ( around 60-65mph ) untill tomorrow around 9-3/4 am till pm

I was up in the Highlands back then, and it was horrendous: the snow was alright (isn't it always?) but the gales were awful! 😁

Mapantz they always overestimate my winds, met office says 58mph gust my 10 m weather station has only had 40mph gust,I do live in abit of a valley, places just up the road probably close to what met office say

Mapantz exactly the same as me, I've had 40mph that's 18 mph off what met office says for my location

BBC weather app is much more accurate with wind speeds I've noticed,it doesn't exaggerate as much

All quiet for a while just north west of Belfast International Airport.

Awoke around 3.30am to no electric, torrential rain and gusty winds. Never seen flooding around the area like it, all calm currently but winds expected to pick up over the course of the afternoon
