Hello there, an easy one to answer for me; autumn by a very long way. December 2023 to July 2024 was one of the drabbest periods for weather I've ever known. The cloud was incessant and couldn't put two sunny days together. End of July onwards things improved and we managed to get a few >30c days in.

September had some big variations in temperature and Kent largely escaped the worst of the mid month wet spell.

October will of course be remembered for the Aurora but again there was a big variation of temperature with a few frosts, including on the night with aurora.

November namely for the two week spell of no rain followed by a very cold week for the time of year. Kent missed out on lying snow but there was a few flakes in the air. Then last week we went from -4.5c to 18c in 48 hours!

As you say, Autumn is normally the meteorological boring time of year but this year is took up the role of spring.

Let's see if December can deliver something interesting!

Summer because that was the warmest, sunniest and driest season of this year. Summer will always be the warmest and often sunniest season of the year, which is why I rate it the highest even if it isn't that good. Only 2020 an exception where spring 2020 was drier and sunnier than the following summer.

I will always prefer summer but in terms of how interesting the seasons were...

1. Autumn - Sept very up and down between both extremes, Oct wasn't too interesting but had a notably cold spell in the 2nd week, Nov had it all from snow to record mild and torrential rain.

2. Summer - mostly not interesting but it's hard to be more boring than the spring and winter we just had. We had 4 fleeting spells of heat in between some pretty boring patterns which was just enough to keep me engaged.

3. Winter - dire and boring except for 2-3 weeks in Jan which were quite nice

4. Spring - yawn. Only thing I can remember was a shock localised snow event on March 27th. Other than that 3 very boring months.

A rather trying year all round for interesting weather has to be said. Autumn is normally my least favourite season, but this year was highly varied, but yes I'm never a fan of it much.

Spring was very disappointing.

Summer was reasonable, so overall my favourite season.

Winter yet again devoid of much cold and snow.

Hoping 2025 will be more interesting.

 Metwatch ditto.

August was my favourite month this year. Second half of July was good too.

Am I the only one here that thought Autumn was garbage? Lol

A shocking September, only spared being horrific by a sunny mid month spell

Very average October leaning more on the duller side although the Aurora was awesome

Utterly Satanic 1st half of November with pretty much zero sunshine, with a fair enough 2nd half

Summer was by far the best season for me this year with a decently sunny June & August and horrifying 1st half of July saved by a sunny 2nd half

Autumn is usually my favourite season of the year, all of the colour changes, cold mornings and sunny afternoons but that hasn't really happened this year, maybe the odd few days. So i shall go with Summer, as down here we managed quite a few sunny and hot days. However this year on a whole has been one big cloud fest and pretty dull.

2024 sure has been a very disappointing year for weather for me. Although there has been moments of good weather.

1) Autumn- By far the best season of the entire year and by a long shot. Autumn here was the driest since 2007. It was also a sunny season as well. September was generally dry and sunny but was quite cool, especially in the middle and final part of the month with some very low temperatures. I recorded a new record for earliest air frost on the 13th. Very early. October was quite similar to September although it wasn’t as cool, it still had some cooler days but nothing to out of the ordinary. November literally had everything this year. Cold weather, hard frosts, heavy snow, rain, very mild weather etc. The 23rd had 15cm of snow recorded here, a minimum of -6.C yet by 10am on the 24th it was already 10.C and all the snow had melted. Definitely one of the most interesting Novembers for a long time. Autumn a clear winntwr

2) Winter- It was a sunny winter but there was very little cold weather bar a week long cold snap in the middle of January. Other than that not very much to note about, weren’t many frosts, cold weather was thin on the ground. Just a fairly sunny winter being the only good part.

3) Summer - A disappointing summer, no month was especially bad but what really let the summer down was its complete lack of warm days and how unsettled it was. Very rarely did the weather stay the same for two or three days at a time. First summer here that hasn’t exceeded 24.C since we started keeping records. A very showery season. June started very well but was generally dull and quite cool, July was exceptionally bad for the first 10 days but then improved somewhat but temperatures struggled and there was still quite a bit of dull weather. August was just unsettled all month. Not quite a 2012 summer but still a poor one.

4) Spring - By far the worst spring I have ever seen, absolutely terrible season. All three months were significantly duller and wetter than average. Despite that we still managed to record our warmest May by a long shot. May 2024 had an average minimum temperature above 10.C exceptionally mild and almost 2.C higher than the last one. March was generally a wet and dull month with the only spring like weather happening during the final week. April was very wet, even wetter than 2012 although not quite as wet as 2000, it was also the dullest April here since 2004. Again the only springlike weather was around midmonth and a couple of days in the final week. May did improve a little bit for the first 12 days and we recorded our warmest day of the year ludicrously early on the 11th with a high of 25.2.C - also marks the earliest date we have exceeded 25.C. The rest of the month was generally wet and dull although did remain very mild especially so at night. Spring 2024 was an absolute write off. Hope to never see anything like it again.

So yeah 2024 for at least 6 months of the year was dire but the autumn was good and so far December has been decent with some very cold weather. Let’s hope 2025 brings some better weather.

SunSean It was a beyond awful season in the south but in the north it was great. We missed out on all the rain in September and actually had a very pleasant month despite it being quite cool a lot of the time. The summer here was poor but did look rather good in the south.
