This was my wind graph for yesterday.

This storm is a northerly- NW direction and look how exposed I am from that direction, as soon as the wind changed to Westerly and then northerly my wind shot up!

A bit of a downgrade on the GFS oz and the ECM not reflected the UKV. Still windy though.

The PIT I just checked and I don't see a downgrade at all? Unless you are on about your area, because it's literally nearly identical winds in west Wales anyway, certainly no downgrade

Models this morning are indicating a slightly earlier right turn for Darragh once it has crossed the country putting the centre of the low nearer East Anglia rather than down the middle of the North Sea.   That means lower predicted wind speeds for counties East of a line (say) from the Wash to Sussex.   Notwithstanding, things look most concerning for Western areas.

matty40s We're almost immune to these aren't we? Something should be done to stop this, because when genuine, dangerous weather does come along, as looks likely this weekend, it just gets ignored and lost in the general sensationalism.

This really doesn't look good for northern facing south-west coast lines.

I think it is likely we will see Red warnings issued for some coastal areas this morning also with maybe an extension of the Amber warnings.

Northwesterly gales are very rare for my location in swansea it's happened before and obviously different areas that are not used to the southwesterlys get hit. Very rare setup especially further west in Wales you are and no reason why the amber won't be upgraded to red in next few hours.

Liam Burge As far as I can see WNW at 80+ gusts,  cross waves which will be running towards Countisbury Hill cliffs and Sillery Sands rather than in towards Lynmouth. Could be interesting to see if there are any storm caused rock falls there this weekend.

Croyde on the other hand, cross beach to on beach waves with possible over 6.5m waves predicted!

Edit: corrected wave estimate for Croyde.

SnowBear Yes I agree - my area of concern is definitely of that within the red circle based purely on the wind directions and wave heights (I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to beach conditions), however I have seen 20ft+ waves be predicted for these areas. I'm going to head out to Ilfracombe tomorrow morning however I'm staying well back from the coast.

HarvSlugger Although this may be exciting for you, just remember to stay safe. These kinds of winds aren't that common, especially from the direction they are coming from. Just be extremely careful if you do venture out.

Liam Burge Croyde, Westward Ho!, coast road from Combe Martin to Hunters Inn, Countisbury Hill, maybe Woolacombe, all could be good vantage points.

SnowBear Was thinking about Westward Ho!. I do know Ilfracombe has that building right on the coast with a massive window; not sure if it will be open though, I'll have to do some more checks after work today.

I expect they’ll be wanting to keep the window shut tomorrow 🫢

Kind of shocked to see much of the coast of cornwall has not been added to this red warning.
