Should be the next named one me thinks. Lets see what happens.

Surprisingly not named as of yet. Winds on Sunday seem more widespread with a slight upgrade from the latest GFS.

Yesty they'd shrunk the warning area for Sunday, today I believe they've extended it twice, both times further south.

Doesn't look like it will get named crazy if the gusts are reaching up to 80mph.

I'm assuming it's this puppy with the green circle in the centre. It's not close enough to Ireland to get named by Met Eireann and UK Met Office seems to be unaware there's anyone or anything north of Manchester.

To be fair I'd rather less naming than more. It used to be that only amber warnings would result in a naming now it seems to be most yellows get named by someone and the met just go along with it. This doesn't look too bad for any more populated areas but given the relatively tame named storms in recent years it is a bit of a surprise that they haven't named this one.

Ross90 I'm concerned because the direction of the wind (W toE) means it's gonna funnel through the M8 corridor and that area is a wind tunnel, higher ground to north and south. I'm about 600 ft upon the higher ground to the south.

105 mph at Cairn Gorm Summit at 70mph at Cairnwell

Fairly quiet here again though.

Current Earth Nullschool animation, screenie. Western Isles getting hammered today. The rumbling noise in my chimney has started, but the worst of the wind is coming in with heavy showers, horizontal rain. Forecast is saying we're gonna have winds in the 40s until about 4pm Sunday.

I would tend to agree that only the really big storms, such as Bert or Darragh, get named. This low might be pretty windy but it doesn't really stand out against the norm for mid-winter.

Additionally, I would also name storms which are notable for rain or snow, even if the wind is non-notable.

Using these criteria we'd actually have five named storms so far:

Ashley and Bert - the two big rain events in Sep

Conall - the low which produced the snow

Darragh - what was actually Bert

E-storm - what was actually Darragh

Over-naming was particularly prevalent last winter. We all remember Babet and Ciaran, there was also Henk (which I missed being out of the country) but struggling to remember any of the others as they were presumably all "normal" active winter low-pressure systems.

When the rain showers come in it's wild, we've just had horizontal hail. Also a secondary low is forming to the SE of the main circulation, pushing the strongest winds further south. Green circle on main circulation.

Crazy that this hasn't been named at all. 2nd strongest wind storm since Dec last year with gusts to 64 mph. Last Dec they hit 77mph. Trees down as well nearby and heard another come down while my sister and I were walking in the local park lower down from us.

Conversely, I don't know why there's a warning for here tomorrow?! Wind speeds don't look to be anything spectacular.

BBC got right on it...about an hour ago, halfway through the actual event cos bridge and road closures have now happened south of the border. Severn Bridge closed completely and parts of A66 closed. The wee secondary low to the SE of the previous main circulation now seems to be taking over.

Looks like the wee secondary is gonna take over, slide SW, clip the bottom tip of Norway and crash into Denmark. Click link to get model animation.

A windy 24 hours ahead with strong gusts into West and North especially and showers too with some turning wintry on high ground in North. Feeling bitter in the windchill. Improving from Monday though with winds...

Winds have been gusting all day here, but in last 30 mins they've really increased; in fact, it's sustained strong winds now. Not surprised the old Severn bridge is shut; only a few miles from here.

We're about to go to an evening party at a pub, even closer to the bridge than here, and the party is in a marquee attached to the pub! Yikes!

After a lull the wind is back here gusting to 50 mph again. Storm Diana is showing the previous two storms how to do it here.
