Working outside for a living I check the radar quite frequently if a low pressure is coming in, to see how long I’ve got before I pack up! I have noticed repeatedly that when the radar shows fairly fragmented ppn out to the west, before a system hits land, more often than not it’s not nearly as fragmented when it properly arrives in Wales/SW England, and peps up as it moves east. Not sure if this will apply today…. And of course there’s always been a few exceptions where it fragments further and fizzles out!

I always think these SW inbound fronts now take a much more Southerly track than say 20 years ago

No idea what's going on with the radars at the moment..

They all appear to be showing something different.

Latest interpretation from the BBC. I believe these are transient accumulations, especially in the south where snow will inevitably turn to rain by Monday morning.

I remember Atlantic 252 To be honest I can't remember going to school in any snow when I was at primary school (86-93). Lots of ice yes, but nothing snowy of note.

Feb 96 was THE snowfall of my childhood. School was closed for 3 days.

Pretty much now casting from here on in based on radar and precip variations

models are generally v poor regarding rainfall distribution at micro level

there will be some areas that comfortably reach 10/15 cms where not too far away will be struggling for 5cms

That applies anywhere north of the M4

sadly for those south mids southwards, what snow is left on the ground in the morning is likely to be wet and slushy. Even level with Birmingham will likely need a pretty early start to make anything of the snowcover.

Alexis First half of the 80’s was where it happened for me! I started secondary school in ‘87, and the first proper snow I remember after that was ‘91 (and it wasn’t that great in Gloucester).

Met4Cast The one on the left possibly isn't an actual radar by the looks of it - maybe it's a radar from earlier, wound forward future radar style.

Currently -1.7°C up near Perth, don't think it'll get above -1°C all day.  Freezing fog throughout the morning.  Forecast is for 0°C and sleet tomorrow, think any colder and it'll be snow instead...

I suspect parts of the Midlands could see quick accumulations of about 10-15cm with up to 5mm p/h (5cm with 1:10 ratio) precipitation rates in heavier bursts forecast before the higher dew points come in.

Obviously a lot more where the band slides across northern england. Easily a foot over the pennines.

Anyone see on the radar that the recipe over France is Snow? Surely that would mean the  air moving north would be colder than expected?? Perhaps more snow than rain tomorrow??

I had a snow shower the other day with a dewpoint above freezing but I was just thinking my weather station could be Abit off

I googled it and it said you don't have to have a dewpoint below 0c for snow, is it his true?

HarvSlugger no theres other factors that will deliver snow with a positive DP but you can't go much above freezing in any case.
