An intense secondary low pressure of 966mb crossed Northern England/ Southern Scotland with a step pressure gradient to the south of the centre. The highest winds were across Wales and Southern England.

Some of the highest wind gusts that day were..

105mph at Portland

102mph at Davidstow Moor

95mph at Culdrose

93mph at Chivenor

87mph at Cardiff

87mph at Pembrey

85mph at Aberporth

81mph at Solent (unspecified location)

I was at Portland Bill this day during the peek winds, around 2-4pm. The sea was chaotic, the air thick with sea spray and the lighthouse droned loudly in the violent wind. It's still the most powerful winds that I've experienced.

The storm was well forecast and a red warning of 100mph winds were issued early that morning for Wales and the SW England.

There was plenty of damage and disruption reported on the news that evening, especially around North Devon, Cornwall and South Wales.
