forester25 February is going to be an exceptionally dull month. I would be surprised if we even recorded 50% of the average sun here.

B87 my perceptions just seem so off base for what is a dull or sunny month now, think 2023/4 have messed me up proper 😵‍💫

I'm thinking a more balanced spring similar to 2016 or 2017, nothing too offensive but nothing exceptionally warm/settled.

Am just personally hoping for a Spring less cloudier than the previous 2, most especially March. May 2023, particularly, was quite pleasant, though, and had some very reasonable spells of sun. I could be okay with some days being cloudy if it was dry and at least fairly mild as it would be useable weather still for doing things. A few thunderstorms and heavy showers of hail (or snow) via a few Polar/Arctic Maritime flows to add some variation to it. And a good number of warm days too.

Spring has sprung today but that is just for looks..

Turned out a gorgeous day with winds from from the SSE and hazy it was an unusual day to say the least..High cirrus clouds..

An afternoon temp of 2.7c in the sun..

Will any of the spring months this year reach average sunshine? Since 2021, only 4 spring months have managed to get to average or above (Apr 2021, Mar 2022, Apr 2022, May 2023).

Coming off the back of 6 months in a row of below average sun, I don't think they will.

If we get a sunnier spell at the end of the month via some westerlies then maybe we can have an unsettled but quite bright start that then transitions into a settled and very mild anticyclonic phase, ala March 2003.

LetItSnow So we might get an above average month (say 101% of average), before a collapse back into the regime of the last 6 months for April and May. I think we are well overdue a massively sunny spring, and run of months in general.

B87 A changeable-but overall sunny and warmer than average spring would be good so to use up the unsettled weather, so to speak. Then a dry and very warm summer.

LetItSnow I'd rather have an extremely sunny and dry spring and summer, and then something more normal from October onwards. The last time we had 6 sunny months in a row was in 2003 - we are well overdue some more.

Looks like a lovely start to spring on the cards, starting over the next couple of days really down this way at least! Perhaps the tide has turned on the last couple of years. Feels like we have more of a chance this year at something more normal, or ‘new normal’. Nice to see days of sun in the low to mid teens appearing and UV levels high enough for some vitamin D ☀️🌸

November felt the most wintry out of this 'winter' of stillness, dross and gloom even though November was autumn. Only time I had lying snow.

Anyway, let's hope that Spring can feel more seasonable and preferably without a SSW.

Just posted this in the winter 24/25 thread before it got terminated

“Lovely to see a few cold crisp sunny days coming up. As I like to see September as a the end of summer, I like to see March as the end of winter, so hopefully a last few cold sunny days and air frosts before I’m ready for spring lol.”

I’m one of those who prefers to use astronomical seasons instead of meteorological ones.

Far more cloud here today than I'd have liked, and than was promised.

Managed probably about 2hours ish of clear skies from 11.30 to 2, then more cloud bubbling up and sunny spells interspersed. Fully cloudy / foggy until 11am ish.

Think we just got unlucky. So rare to get a fully clear day here in Essex now.

Whilst still early, its been really nice to actually see considerable sunny weather.

I think like others we are probably due for a run of 6-12 months of relatively drier weather after what has been a 2 year period which has been heavily stacked towards wetter than normal.

I've also got a sneaky feeling that we will get another very impressive summer spell in the first half of the summer, but thats a little way aways still.

Lovely first day of meteorological spring, but cold and frosty with mist this morning at -2°C.
