My wife (a reliable sort, not prone to exaggeration about wintry precipitation) tells me we had a very heavy snow shower lasting about 10 minutes just before lunch today. Also, on the way back from Omicron Persei 8, the Lake District fells and the Pennines were snow-covered from about 2000ft upwards.

Does anybody know the possabilities of building a second land tier over the UK. Say around 2000ft high, so that all us snow lovers could build houses on it :(

Wow, sleet and wet snow here, Just north of Chelsmford, Essex! Its 3.1c at present and very windy. It appears that the wintry precipitation is falling from the thin second band of rain, just behind the main band, which is now clearing the SE. Its not settling and not very heavy however, Anyone else in Essex experiencing this?

Heavy showers this afternoon, first of sleet, but of snow since 1500, mixed with some hail.

Thin temporary cover after each shower. Temp' varying between 0.8c in showers and around 2.5c between them.

Thunderstorm with sleet and hail within the last 45 mins. Turning to wet snow.

Temporary covering of slush - but nearly all melted now.

Wind is NW gusting to 30kts and temperature has fallen to 1.8c

Still some big Cumulonimbus over Cheshire that can be seen in the moonlight between the snow showers - so maybe some more to come this evening.

This report is 25 mins late as the power was out during the storm.

Looks like the cold air has arrived here, maybe we might see some snow tomorrow.

in reply to snowman

'Heavy Hail storm turned it to some heavy snow for around 20 mins, didn't settle though because of the wet conditions.'

Currently a light sleet shower. Today has been very showery and some appear to have had a few wintry bits in them. There have been loads of rainbows.

Guest Sir Seany

Had a heavy sleet shower around an hour ago, looks promising for tomorrow!

Has anyone else noticed Ms Murphymoo's dancing elf winking before he makes the candy canes appear! Its eyes are spookily blue!!!
