Anybody explain this...

Hinckley, 110m ASL - Temperature 6.7C

Rugby (About 10 miles SE of Hinckley) 125m ASL - Temperature 6.0C

Would 15m really make that much difference?

I doubt it, it's more likely to be due to cloud cover, urban warming and/or shower activity.

A sleety shower commenced in Lancaster- but it only lasted about 30 seconds!

Edit at 20:50: We're missing the excitement at the moment- the area around Morecambe Bay seems to be missing the showers.

That in itself could work either way, for if we start catching some again, the ground will be a lot drier...

Temperature now down to 2.0c here so any further showers should at least be of sleet.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
