I was woken in the night by torrential rain and gale force winds.

By first light the sky had brightened and we now have sunny spells, racing low level cloud and cumulus, and a very gusty NW wind!

The temp was 11c at 0800 but is now down to 9c.

    Very windy with widespread gales.

Recorded a gust of 38mph so far from the NW.

Currently 12.3C in glorious sunshine with scattered cumulus clouds.

I'm amazed just how mild it still is, especially in a strong NW airstream!

Squally showers on a fierce NW'ly, and about 6-7C. It's very black out there, and I'm keeping the window a bit open in case there's any thunder.

Due to the frequent anticyclonic weather this winter, sunshine and showers conditions have been notably absent even in Lancaster (where they are usually pretty common), but they are here today, the sun is about to come out as I speak.

Currently conditions are clear and sunny with little in the way of cloud. Windy approx 17mph. Temp 6c but feels like 0c the wind is making it feel ffffreezing!

As I type very dark clouds are appearing on the horizon (wheres my torch). No doubt we are in for another downpour of the wet stuff!

    • August thunderstorms bring the risk of flooding and disruption

Any rain should be welcome looking at the parched ground but intense downpours aren't enough. Thunderstorms bring the risk of flash flooding as the rain hits the hard, dry ground. Read the full update here
