SNOW ALERT

Well another surprise from the weather this morning. An area of sleet and snow, mostly light has developed in the past 2 to 3 hours.

The areas affected include Greater Manchester, parts of Merseyside across into parts of Yorkshire, chiefly west of the A1. This area will move south during the morning but should decrease in size as it does so. Some of the higher areas mentioned, and in its path, may get 2-4cm of new snow.

The team will reassess the situation later this morning.

Stay safe and listen to your local radio station for developments.

Sorry about the late post.

Reports for 25 feb- snow on and off throughout the day still 4cm of thawing snow laying

26 feb - more light snow flurries during the day, snow still laying but now not total cover.

27 feb - thaw continued and only snow patches left - just two light snow flurries

28 Feb - light snow overnight left a dusting temp at 9am was minus 3c minimum overnight down to minus 6c - the lowest we have recorded during this winter.

Total cloud cover of stratocumulus so perhaps some more light flurries to come.

Likewise. Quite simply un-believeable.

Been out for a walk around the City and it's a winter wonderland.

Me thinks the hills will be used for sledging. :)

Certainly didn't expect this.
