Lovely morning here after about 10cm of snow last night-current temperature 0.8c with bright sunshine and partlycloudy sky.

Crystal clear blue skies, stiff wind, bitterly cold.

Yesterday's heavy snow caught most out by surprise for the quantity that fell. It started around 5am and continued unabated until 6pm when the continuous snow turned much more showery as the very slow moving LP system that brought the weather, finally drifted to the ESE and away from the UK.

The wind picked up from the NE and with gusting to 25kts adding to trees laden with snow, falling branches became a real hazard with roads blocked and even power lines brought down.

Close to 20cm of lying snow at my home and some moderate drifting to 40cm.

Total snow accumulation for the winter is now about 43.0cm with snow at some point on each of eleven consecutive days at the end of February and early March with 14 snow days in total for the whole winter period.

Today is expected to be mainly dry although as I write, small falkes are falling from clear skies! Convective showers may pep up over the north sea and drift inland on the stiff North Easterly but are not expected to give anything more than a dusting.

The Atlantic high to our west will try to ridge in with a tongue of milder air by this evening. However a developing low between Iceland and Scandinavia to the North will quickly bring colder air once again over the UK by tomorrow morning. Winds will veer from NE to NW tonight and then N by morning. The milder temperatures will start the thawing process, but in the snow fields, the biting wind will keep a bitterly cold windchill
