    0715rs Friday 4/3/05

    Overcast, light breeze, cold.

Coldest night of the year so far with temperatures falling to -6C and -9C dewpoint. Convective cloud fed on a NE wind from the North Sea, brought a mixture of sunshine and snow showers yesterday, giving several dustings on top of the lying snow. Surprisingly hardly any thaw is evident except from the tops of trees where the snow was mostly blown in the wind. With the temperatures pegged to around freezing for much of the day, side roads are still clogged in very icy conditions. Schools look to be shut for a third day today.

The band of cloud associated with an approaching warm front, will cross the SE this morning with sleet and snow on it's leading edge as it hits the cold air of snowfields in Kent and Sussex. Winds will strengthen from the NW and gusting to 30kts is possible. Behind the front, the snow will turn to rain for a time and a thaw will commence, but before long a cold front will once again cross the country bringing drier but colder conditions for Saturday.

Expected high of 3C as the warm front moves in this afternoon, feeling like -1C with windchill.

    -4.1C (min -6.0C @04:12) windchill -4.2C

4kts WSW (10 minute average); gusting 7kts (1 minute average over last hour); max gust 12kts @ 06:08

0.0mm/hr last hour; max 0.0mm/min over last 12hrs; total 0.00mm/12hrs

1014.5hPa msl corrected, trend falling, -0.8hPa/hr

    81% humidity

    -8.9C dewpoint (-5.8C wetbulb)

Good morning we have heavy snow here in luton, traffic disruption on all the major roads around luton and dunstable the A1 at letchworth down to WGCity is at a standstill and the NW section of the M25 is slow due to heavy snow.

all the roads have snow undercut with ice and i think there are delays at luton airport.

the snow is due to clear later and turn to rain.

Still snowing heavy here. No signs of letting up. The gritters have been working round the clock last night and no problems reported on the M4/M25 interchange just reduced visablity. How long is this due to last before it converts to rain. Its still very cold here.

Well, big rain cloud heading west..

Just rained really heavily for about 10-15 mins..

Now seeing high clouds and blue skies in the east..

Not sure what temperatures are here (no equipment)..

Hopefully as it travels west, temps may be cooler for those peeps in that direction..

    Cheers.

Here in Jersey it is cloudy with patches of blue sky. The wind is from the NW, force 2-3 and the pressure ia 1013mm, falling slowly. This is probably the nicest day we have had for some time!! Not due to last however.

We have had snow showers over the past week but it was more like a sprinkle of dandruff than the real thing, still it's the first snow here for 8 years. Children would have been hard pushed to make a snowball, never mind a snowman.
