A few hours of heavy snow this morning gave a couple of inches followed by a rapid thaw as snow turned to rain.

Currently some sleety showers around with clearer intervals.

Snow during the early hours of this morning gave 2cm which had almost completely thawed by 0930. Sleet shower around 1015 was followed by a heavy shower of snow, graupel and soft hail from 1100-1115, this was enough to whiten all the bare patches in the fields for 15 minutes.

Sunny spells and a few light snow and soft hail showers this afternoon.

Amazing how quickly a fresh cover of snow will thaw compared to the old stuff which has thawed a little and re-frozen half a dozen times.

Today is the 15th consecutive day with snow falling here, when the spell ends I'll look back through the record to see how long it is since a similar spell.

  A bit chilly in Newcastle tonight

Temp 2c: and I think it will fall further

Little bit of frost around, and a few hail

showers have been rattling in on what seems

like a northerly wind

Its been very springlike today! but I think its back

to winter tomorrow
