Overall, a month of three parts. The first (1st - 13th) being cold in easterly/northerly airflows which led to a 2cm covering on the 5th. The second part (14th - 25th) was very mild but relatively dull with only hazy sunshine. The last part (25th-31st) was typical anti-cyclonic gloom - day after day of overcast skies, mist, drizzle and fog in the night. The wet and dry day figures do not tell the whole story, rainfall was definitely low with many days of drizzle amounting to nothing. As usual in the north-east in March, sunshine was at a premium - I only saw the sun properly on a handful of days.

hi

here with my March figures

mean temp = 7.9C(2.1C up on long term average)

avge min = 4.7C(2.1C=avge) absolute min = -1.8C on 2nd

avge max = 11.1C(avge=9.5C) absolute max = 18.4C on 18th

rainfall was 14.6mm way below average with 0.2mm or more on 13 =avge

no fog or thunder, and 4 days with snow, 1 lying, (avge=5 and 1)

air frost = 5(avge

ground frost = 9 (avge =14)

general notes

another dry month, and another way above average in terms of temps, and as has been said already, a month of two halves.

1st 5 days = mean temp 3.5C, up to 4.5C by 10th, and 6.7C by 19th ending on 7.9C.

Not sure how it compares to other March's yet.

regards

John

It was definitely a month of 2 halves, and in fact the stats for the 2nd half are lower than they looked likely to be because the last 3 days were much cooler! These stats are for days 1-15 then days 16-31. Also note that days 14 and 15 were the start of milder conditions.

Average min = 0.53c
