After the recent warm spell and with the gardening season having begun in earnest, a sharp change in the weather is expected in the next few days with a cold snap moving down from the Arctic.

Freshening northerly winds will bring increasingly wintry showers to almost anywhere in the UK, with a chance of snowfall. However, the main concern for gardeners will be the sharp and widespread frosts expected on Thursday and Friday nights. These frosts could be very damaging indeed with temperatures falling as low as -4C (25F) in places, so we strongly advise the gardeners amongst you to take precautions to try and prevent frost damage to your young and tender plants and shrubs.
