hi

the skew-t's suggest that the midlands and sw are probably the best areas for cloud tops to get high enough for thunder; mind you there will always be the chance for other areas. Most cloud tops between 18000ft and 20000ft but maybe 24000ft.

regards

John

Green cloud Matt, I've only ever seen that once and it was a bad storm!!

One nearby deep rumble of thunder at 1325 but the heaviest of the line of storms has stayed S.

Just experienced a T-storm during the past 30 minutes.

Thunder, Lightning(IC), hail and fairly heavy rain.

As I type another roll of thunder booms out.

hi

I think one reason why what some term the M4 corridor is seeing so much activity is due to some convergence occurring bewteen the coast and 50-60 miles inland. This is causing rather more upward motion than the skew-T's might have suggested for so far east. Once the showers/storms have generated then they will migrate ENE in the general flow at around 5,000ft, say 25-30mph. This should show on the radar echoes.

regards

John

thunder from a storm to my WSW at present, going to clip me for sure at least.

and john, yes looking at the Satiite images i'd agree with that I'd certainly think there is a convergabce line set-up along the M4 Corridor.
