On this lunchtime's forecast, Derek Brockway said "You can tell where the sunshine is, it's the lighter shade of beige on the chart."  :)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

on Lookeast they have been saying a lighter shade of gold for sunshine :) lol the regional forecasts are much, much better now

I'm wondering if the Graphics do meet the disabilty criteria. I doubt they do.

For the ones that get confused, give them a simple text summery at the end. Easy really isn't?

For the ones that don't get confused by the TV on off button give us a proper forecast including winds, Preasure charts becuase at times we see things that aren't been forecast the presenter.

Also I've got a question how strong does the wind have to be for it to be mentioned on the forecast. Gusts to 20 mph Gusts to 29 mph Gusts to 30 Mph.

Somebody at work wanted to know where to complain so i gave him the link. He's now switched to ITV for the forecast. Apparently ITV turned this junk down.

Now whether this has been co-incidence but the forecasts in the last few days since the introduction have been a bit iffy. This si the national forecast on breakfast TV.

Monday Early rain becoming colder and then sunny. Winds not important.

    Colder correct

Rained most of the day. Incorrect.

Sunshine None Incorrect. Okay I found it hard to spot the lighter colour for Sun.

Winds up to 29 mph Incorrect.

    Tuesday

    Bright early Dull later.

Sunny Spells all day but iffy graphics again effect??

    Wednesday

    Rain early and late.

Dry when it was raining no rain later. Incorrect forecast. Graphics again???

    Thursday.

Early Rain then Rain by late afternoon showers in between.

So far niether has happened and I didn't need my Jacket for work. Let them off with the showers since it's always hit and miss.

Too be honest it's probably my interpration of the graphics but it shows how hard the new graphics are to get the feeling for the Weather in your area. Unless of course they're getting it plain wrong.

Just watched 6:30 forecast. Myself & everyone in my family found it very hard to actually know what's going to happen tomorrow! All I know is it'll rain at some time or other and it'll be 19C in London! No idea where the weather is coming from, no idea about the wind and no idea what is happening over next few days!

No summary of today like there used to be, no pressure charts, no wind charts, no idea on the coming weekend- nothing!

UPDATE FOR FURTHER DISCUSSION - (press release) 1530 19/05/05

The BBC has been forced onto the defensive over its new £1m weather forecasts after an avalanche of complaints from viewers, politicians, disability groups and even its own former weather presenters.

    Microburst posts this at 15:29

    Like I said, automated! : :)

    Phil.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Last time I looked I wasn't automated!

Just watched the BBC Regional Forecast, Very Detailed and much better than before the change. They have shown more synoptic charts in the past couple of days, than they used to do in months before the change.

Even the 1857 BBC News 24 Forecast by Peter Gibbs was much better, Sometimes Less is More and Finally they are starting to understand that.

BBC personnel are a lot more understanding than people realise Jackone.

Incidentally does this website have the facility to do a live webchat?

    Perhaps someone could say.

Earlier today I complained that they left out the centre of the country and tonight they covered it. Now we them to dump the graphics and we're in.

Why can the bbc use graphics like this?

    weather_03.jpg

So much more easy to read yet visualy attractive

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Why dont we have a map like above and then go into detail, with the cloud and rain shadows?

To be honest I think that will happen, have the best of the odd system with the use of the new much better graphic package. Still think they should change the angle, I don't want to see Iceland on the UK weather map.

I just cant bear to see those lovely, clear old weather symbols to go. I used to love watching the BBC weather forecast but now I dont. The forecast is too plain, unreadable and depressing.

Snow ramping will never be the same again with the new system :D

You must be much taller than me. I can't see Iceland. I can't see anything north of Manchester.

    Re. the wind arrows.

I much preferred the coloured arrows rather than the array of white things flying across the screen.

Also helped give a hint of the temperature/feel of the day.

nitpicking there mr JH sir :D yeps im sure thats what he means- erm... i do like them but again you have the same problem as with the flat, old graphics- one symbol covers hundreds of miles and so the accuracy is not very good.

(ps: i still like the new ones.LOL)

i agree, the old symbols did cover hundreds of miles and with the new ever improving graphics, its much more accurate as it actually goes under the clouds and shows the shadows on the ground.
