A thunderstorm has just made landfall across Lymington and the isle of Wight - I watched it come in over poole and swanage from about 10 .15 until it arrived a few minutes ago. Rain has started to increase but the lightning frequency has decreased. Some spectaclar forks into the sea earlier!!

Can report a few distant flashes of lightning to the south-west of Barnstaple, likely to be heading this way. I might be in for a sleepless night!

Hot, still and humid here as I type.

Will report either tomorrow morning or throughout the night subject to activity.

    Good night

    Marcus,

    Barnstaple, North Devon.

just got in, watched continuous lightning from 9.30pm ish till a good 1 am then slowed up, until an hour ago where it calmed a bit more and sky cleared.

But starting to here rumbles again aswell as see more frequent lightning sky looks as if its clouded up .

    so round 2 ??

Here in Swansea theres a huge thunderstorm starting with flashes every few seconds, no thunder yet so god help us when the storm gets over us. Looking at the radar all the thunderstorms have merged into one huge one and is heading over South Wales and West.

Was woken a few minutes after 3 by distant thunder (window/blind open!!)

Watched some cool sheet lightning for 20 mins then a closer flash surprised me :o .

It started to rain with big spots but still more lightning about 8 miles to my W.

Then 03.31 I leapt out of my skin, a huge bolt struck something very nearby and I saw it from my window B) Immediate bomb like thunder - totally unexpected but should have expected it ;)

I think it was developing overhead B)

Watched as the main storm core edged approx 2 miles to me NW and is now to my NNE. Sporadic lightning and deep thunder.

Still raining steadily here now but the cloud is quite high as the moon has been glowing orangily throughout B)

1st light reveals very disturbed clouds in most of the sky ;)

T-storm started around 4.30am, Thunder woke me up. The main storm appears to be to the West of me, but the odd rogue flash of lightning very near by.

Seems to be getting closer, and can see constant flashes out of my window.

Heavy rain drops just started, of to work soon, shall take my camara with me, as I feel I will need it. B) B) B) :o

2nd storm of Friday was a stunner B)

1st thunder heard at just before 06.45 with squally winds and swirling clouds.

1st lightning seen just beofre 07.00 was a terrific cg bolt about 2 miles away.

Then the wind really gusted and low scud cleared to reveal heavy rain and then, in the next 15 minutes, I counted about 20 more cg strikes. 2 of these were scarily close and bomb like B)

Regular thunder and more distant lightning continued until just after 07.30.

Still raining gently and the sky is lifting but very swirly B)

Radar suggests this was the SE part of the massive storm system.

Second cell about to roll in, First one now cleared to the NE, contained some good GC. This cell does not seem quite so active.

I was in Paris Yesturday and just "got out" before the airport was closed!! The CB's were huge, completely filling our weather radar with red (nasty) returns.

Mod rain now, yes, this cell not so active.

Small storm here, very heavy rain, a few rumbles of thunder, very little in the way of lightning. Appears to be coming from the WSW (Gloucester way) and moving ENE towards Coventry.

Occasional lightning and thunder between 7am and 7:30am.Quite a high cloud base with slow moving clouds going north east. Brief sharp downpour which has pretty much dried out now. No evidence of hail and storm was not particularly severe.

Thunder in the distance. Total cloud cover now and moderate rain.

Wind form the SW about 10kts but a squall preceded the rain.

Thunder sounds like its towards Burton on Trent
