Well the storm that I reported earlier turned out to be two distinctly different storms the first threatened to delay the start of the flying displays over the Solent and the second came during the Spitfire was showing off, both short lived but quite potent by nature with plenty of CGs.

With the storm that I reported off the South coast in the early hours of the morning that make 3 storms so far today with potential for some more.

Have had two storms this evening here in Winchester. The first one began at around 5.30pm and had an extremely high amount of beautiful cloud to cloud lightning, most spectacular with white, blue and pink coloured lightning. The second arrived at 6.45 and I have two videos of this storm. Video 1 shows a few good fork strikes, and Video 2 shows how heavy the rain got .

I have 2 storms to report this evening (so far!)

1. A sporadic storm with light/moderate rain and booming thunder every 5 minutes or so. Rumbled around for over an hour. From approx 17.15 - 18.30.

2. 2 cells approached just after 19.00. One to the W and one to the E. Thunder heard regularly from both. Then just about 19.30 the cells appeared to merge almost overhead! There was frequent CC and IC lightning, some really cool purple streaks on the high based cloud. Rain was light but big spots which suddenly turned into a downpour that stopped lightning being visible. 7.5mm rain total. Last thunder heard at 20.15 as this storm drifted away to the N.

Not much wind here during the storms, a few gusts now and then.

 Thunderstorm kicked off in the western distance around 6 pm or so, with a few spots of rain. As it moved away, a good cell came up from the south and passed near to our east shortly before 7.

Lots of good lightning, and then a sudden cloudburst of torrential rain, preceded by hail and squally northeasterly winds for around 20 seconds. The downpour lasted only 5 mins. or so, moving away to the north.

Overcast since, with some showers and a breezy easterly. Skies now turning increasingly dark from the south, no thunder, but rain setting in and looks like turning very heavy soon.

Have had three thunderstorms here in the last few hours. What was best about them was the volume of the thunder, it was extremely loud! Around 5pm, there was some moderate rain with a few flashes of lightning. Then at 6pm, there was a quite violent thuinderstorm that passed overhead. What was intresting in this storm was that some clouds were moving South-North, and some East-west. At 7.30pm (last storm), there was less thunder and lightning (but still fairly impressive) but a lot more rain, there was some flash flooding on some of the roads around here, drains overflowing etc. Overall, very impressed, especially as I though the storms weren't going to arrive!!

Good forked lightning just then to the south, very long deep thunderboom indicating some torrential rain on its way - I'll post more on that soon!

Amazing Thunderstorms here in the East Midlands.

Just come from Ikea, Nottingham (jntn 26), to East Midlands airport (jntn 24) on the M1.

When we left, it was 21oC, and partly cloudy.

Once on the M1 South, we could see the storm clouds, and within 5 mintues on the M1, we could see the lightening. 5 minutes later, the torrential rain had started an temperature had dropped to 12.5C :o

Its still stormy (lots of lightening and thunder), although the rain has eased off.

At one point, there were storms at many different points around us.

Frightening, yet amazing. And still loving it. However, the cat wasnt impressed, as he was still outside
