Just thought I'd mention that we had a second storm pass over the south of Northampton last night around 10pm it wasn't as intense as the one earlier in the day but did produce some good CG lightning and some really torrential rain.

Heavy rain this afternoon with several rumbles of thunder...prompting a mass and panic exodus off the golf course!

As often happens, the storms in South Tyneside struggled to reach the North Sea coast, but there were nonetheless a few rumbles out to the west.

Where i work in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear there has been a bit of rain and a few rumbles of thunder. In Newcastle though there has been flash flooding and roads closed. Back home in Stanley there are some beefy clouds around, hoping for some more thunder and lightning

Thunder for about 20 minutes mid afternoon, not much lightning. Exceptionally large drops of rain for abut 30 seconds, massive downdraught and then drizzle for 2 hours (a storm????)

From Ammastorm and Sazzleuk:

Our first post on Net-weather!

We went out for a bit of a chase starting from Leeds at 4.30pm, headed north and east, stopping outside York and further up to Helmsley. Some beautiful cumulus congestus on the way out of Leeds (picture 1) sticking to that squall line that was showing up on the radar.

Just south of Helmsley we caught up with the storm and were under the base, which was really nicely defined. A bit of lightning, but most interestingly we also saw some finger/ funnel like features trying to form under the cloud base (picture 2). Aparently there was an unconfirmed report of a funnel cloud at the near by RAF base, so it's not so unlikely that the storm was producing some pretty intense features.

It was moving really fast north eastwards, so by 8.30pm had already slipped into the North Sea. Finished the day sitting on the beach with some fish n' chips watching it dissapear on the horizon... topped off with a cracking sunset, all n' all it was a great chase :)

P.S. Sorry if the pictures don't work - I'm testing the system here!
