It's been a cloudy old start to the day - thus I got up after ten o' clock. I've been watching the Helsinki Athletics and since then, blue sky has been seen out to the west. Feeling pleasantly warm with a light breeze. 18C

Where the hell is the sunshine. The blue sky is disappearing and I think I just felt a drop of rain. Nevertheless, 20C is the current temperatuer. Bring on the sunshine.

Just had a sharp shower here in Durham with about 4 claps of thunder. Impressive!

Quite hefty but very isolated shower....has drifted off the Durham coast.

Poor old PersianPaladin - getting all the rain and showers. However, it's about time the southwest got a thunderstorm. We haven't had one since Monday 4th July 2005 and I was cooped up at school.

In Bristol there are hints of sunshine but still 95% overcast. 21C

A huge black cloud sitting overhead giving a display of undulatus and mammatus. However, clear skies to the southwest. There's just been a storm in Durham apparently, have there been any thunderstorms anywhere else??? :)

I would prefer to call it a blustery thundery shower than a 'storm'...it was suprisingly brief and only lasted for 10 mins. The rain came down in random bursts rather than a sustained downpour...but there were 4 claps of thunder and some sheet lightning. Very localised...

Oh, I see. I quite like the sense of blustery showers and impressive lightning. Reminds me of autumn.

Yea...early autumn and spring are the seasons in which we normally get lots of abrupt blustery convectional showers because of the north-westerly wind is more predominant at that time. It's also because of the position of the gulf stream, lower air pressure and increased convergence from cooler polar maritime atlantic air mixing with the warmer plumes still lingering to the south.
