We've had a fair few rumbles today, haven't reallt being paying attention but the odd rumble here and there has been heard.

Wish the sky would clear for Perseids now!

Well I was out on my bike today around on 20 mile bike ride from Northamptonshire to Market Harborough around 6pm when a storm errupted very close by. I 'd been watching the clouds build all afternoon to the Leicester direction but it was only when I was miles from no where without a camera or cover when the storm kicked off and began to move in my direction very quickly. I saw 2 CG's and a few CC's and there was torrential rain. Only lasted about 20 mins though.

good storm in ipswich, started at about 10pm, and was still rumbling on come 10.45pm- very heavy rain, but the most impressive thing was the thunder and lightning- loud thunder, and LOADS of lightning- i watched two bolts hit houses, our streets electiricity went off tempriaily, then came back on only for all street lamps and tellys to go off, but the otgher electricity remain. There was about 5 lightning strikes every minute at one point, it was a very unexpected, impressive storm! i loved it!

Late report of a T-storm last night for around half an hour about 10 pm, nothing severe - but the TV picture disapeared momentarily a few times, been a good month since we last had a storm in Essex.

1100 homes lost power suring the thunderstorm here in Ipswich last night, not for long though, just a couple of hours- we lost it for about 15 minutes here, but just down the road they were more affected

It's a bit late but ................. had torrential rain last night about 11.30pm lasted about 15 minutes, the lightening was flashing away for over an hour (but NO thunder) - how can that be? I always thought that the thunder was the sound of the lightning?

If the wind is blowing in the wrong direction it can almost compleatly hide the sound of the thunder if its a few miles away :)

    • Exceptional warmth for western Europe as October begins

There'll be exceptionally warm temperatures for the time of year affecting much of western Europe during the coming days, but that warmth will only graze the UK for now. Next weekend may see a more direct hit with the potential for southerly winds to draw some of that heat north and take temperatures into the mid or high-twenties. Read the full update here

Wind and rain before Spanish heat arrives for the weekend

There will be downpours into Tuesday with blustery winds picking up. Western Scotland will see a wet few days later this week. Then heat from Spain will surge up from the south giving a warm weekend. Read the full update here
